The Dark City: Vaults of Terra: Warhammer 40,000, Book 3

A good read / listen ... but
I've been waiting for this book for a couple of years, which meant I had to go back and re-listen to book 1 and 2 (Carrion Throne and Hollow Mountain) to re-acquaint myself.I think book 1 and 2 had a much bigger and bad-ass story line, and whilst book 3 has been good... the author has effectively turned the main inquisition-character into a cuck, going from a persona that has certainty, to one that is asking for permission.Still, its a good read and I do recommend it.

Only darkness and the unknown lay in wait for the future of the Imperium
Another fantastic inquisition novel by Chris Wraight. The dark city ties up the mystery and story of inquisitor Crowl and interrogator Spinoza and the rest of the team with aplomb. A beautifully woven series of events that culminates in an ending that leaves you with chills. The dark eldar depicted throughout the novel are the best versions of them that has come out of blacklibrary they are seriously terrifying and utterly alien just as they should always be.Wonderful 40k flavour throughout the whole story, which makes this a must read for any long time 40k fan.

Interesting series and character development, perhaps not to everyones taste
I quite liked this series. Book 3 is definitely different in tone and content to 1 and 2, so some readers might not like that. Was good for background on some of the more mysterious pillars of Imperial history and context to the run up to recent WH40k history. Seems to run in parallel with that history but is not part of it. Who knows if there will be a follow up to the ending, seems unlikely but you never know.Changes in pace, setting etc might put some people off but I enjoyed it fairly well overall.

A fine end to the tale
I must say while it did start somewhat slowly, but by the halfway point it gone in to over drive, a very good 40k story, loved it
