The Best Dinosaur Book
This is my favorite book about Dinosaurs. I first read it in 11th grade Zoology, and it absolutely enchanted me. I’ve always been a Dinosaur girl, and this book compelled me to explore my fascination deeper. This book is exceptional and it draws you in, tantalizing and pulling you into Raptor Red’s world. I’ve read this book five times and have owned two copies before this one. The first one fell apart and I got the second one right after. This one is my back up, just in case. The only thing I wish is that this wonderful book was on kindle.

yet I'll do my best to describe it anyways
There is something very special about this book. It's something that's hard to describe, yet I'll do my best to describe it anyways.I can tell how he wrote the book, Robert Bakker doesn't just see dinosaurs and Mesozoic ecosystems as something he's studied as a paleontologist. He has this love for dinosaurs and this passion just oozes out of the book while you're reading it. You can really tell he doesn't just study them, he loves them, and he gets you to love them too.The way he gets into the head of a prehistoric predator and narrates her feelings, emotions, and actions is an incredible idea and he executed it fantastically. He does a great job portraying Raptor Red and her family as a group of beautiful, intelligent, sentient creatures as well as a lethal carnivores. His insight and speculation into how he believes these animals may have behaved and interacted was fascinating, logically composed, and frequently silly.Great books come and go. Raptor Red was more than a great book. It's an unforgettable book.

Surprisingly deep.
I got this book after realizing that my knowledge of dinosaurs was dreadfully low at a time when I needed such knowledge to complete a short story. I don't seem to remember ever having much of an interest in dinos, growing up. In fact, I'm sure my precocious little dino-factoid spouting great-nephew has absorbed several times more dinosaur knowledge in his 5 years than I have in my 30. Given that, I wanted something to read to give me an intimate perspective of dinosaur living. I searched Amazon and Google and this book was brought to my attention.I expected this book to be pretty dry, straightforward, and humorless but was delightfully surprised to discover that this was not the case. Bakker's Raptor Red is brimming with humor, heart, and food for thought. Much of what's inside had me pondering over the human condition and how complex the genetic lineage of us and the world's animals really is. The book features the POVs of both simple minded herbivores and big brained predators. Each is humanlike in some ways but there's enough distance in the writing to remind us that this is not a human POV. The Utahraptors presented in the book are wildly intelligent and display a range of emotions that I had never expected. It was a compelling mix of real life dino-theories and inferences supported by Bakker himself combined with fiction carefully crafted by someone with intimate knowledge of the subject. What I did not expect was such compelling prose and personality from this little book.I'd given up doing book reviews these last few years, but this book excited me enough to write this one and it turned out longer than I'd suspected. Do yourself a favor. If you like dinos then pick this one up. If you barely have any interest in dinos then I implore you to do the same. I now have a ravenous interest in learning much more about the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods and all the creatures and plants that thrived and died in each.

An intense and intriguing adventure
I am twelve years old, and I think that Robert Bakker writes an intense and intriguing adventure. An adventure about a Utahraptor. The story states many achievements and it is strangely relatable to our life as humans. The daily life of a Utahraptor is more complex than I would ever imagined. I would not recommend this to a young child. The language is complex. There are also many violent descriptions. I think Robert Bakker wants to put the reader in the element of being a Utahraptor both physically and emotionally. The reader is bombarded with extreme situations. One minute you are bracing yourself for the Utahraptors next kill and the next minute you’re sad because she is pulled in two directions emotionally. The family bonds in this book are just part of the story. The Utahrapture’s message is perseverance against all odds. She battles through all elements. The author has a way of capturing the moment of giving you details that draw you closer to the story. Seeing the world through Raptor Red’s eyes is beautiful and terrifying. The sights she sees will follow you throughout your day. You will be drawn back to the book and it is hard to put down. In conclusion I give this book four stars because as good as the description were sometimes you would get lost between a description and the story. Otherwise it is a very educational book. It is also original with the idea of a dinosaur’s point of view. I would recommend this book to those who are interested in dinosaurs, reading, action, and sadness

Jurassic Park ..Eat your heart out!!
Absolutely superb novel written by a top class palaeontologist/dinosaur expert who really knows his stuff. Robert Bakker was actually consulted during the making of the Jurassic Park movie due to his extensive knowledge. This book takes you right into the world of these incredible animals, and what it must have possibly been like for them in a brutal battle for survival. Just love this book!!

Absolutely awesome
A fantastic story about a female Utahraptor living her prehistoric life.I absolutely love this book and got hooked to it right from the start. I enjoyed it so much, I forced myself to stop reading to keep the journey going for more time.I do love dinosaurs and am highly interested in them, this book satisfied my craving for a good story, and for scientific researches about them, even if some of the information used in this book is not entirely up to date, I could tell, Robert T. Bakker already suspicied a lot of what we know of Utahraptor now, but decided to remain objective with what was confirmed by science when he wrote this book.Go read the book of who informed Spielberg about dinosaurs for the awesome Jurassic Park. But this book, right here, is an even more awesome experience as a dino enthusiast!I can't help, I read it multiple times already. This is by far one of my favorite books.

Bello
Bello.
