I bought this system in April and generally have been very pleased with it. After dark it automatically switches to night mode ie black and white pictures with LED lights which illuminate the scene. I am impressed by how low the light level has to be before it switches and how well the LEDs illuminate the scene. Daylight performance is very good and the pictures, both live and recorded, can be zoomed in to see more detail. The video can be viewed on an attached monitor, and on a laptop or smartphone via the internet, so enabling the system to be monitored whilst you are away from home. After a while I had problems with one of the cameras intermittently failing to record, so I contacted SMONET by email and was responded to by Emily. It took quite a while to sort out the problem, mainly due to me preferring to use email rather than telephone, but Emily was determined to fix the problem so, after replacing the NVR and one camera and supplying me with a range-extender (free), we managed between us to get a good system. I cannot speak highly enough of the good customer service I experienced - anything you buy can have problems; it's how these problems are sorted out which defines how good a company is to deal with, so full marks to Emily.

Considering all of the good reviews about this system I bought one, it arrivwd very quickly, everything was present and I began the set up. The idea was to put a camera on each outside corner of my roof apartment. Having spent a few hoyrs getting everything set up I fired it up only to find that the recording box refused to connect to their servers and above that I got no signal from a camera no more than 20ft from the receiver, admittedly there were two lightweight stud walls and some roof tiles in the path of the signal but as this item is sold as an indoor and outdoor system I find it incredulous that the only way to receive a signal would be for me to place the recorder outside as well. The one camera did receive a 3 out of 4 bar signal but the refresh rate was so poor that half of the time no changes in the area were captured. I also seriously question the quality of the transmitted picture being hd. I had the system linked to a very high quality pc monitor with a hdmi cable, the picture was grainy for anything more than 25 ft away, in fact so grainy it would not be possible to read a car number plate. So all in all a complete waste of a day once I took the cameras down and packed it all back up to be sent back to Amazon. This is a generic, cheap system from China, branded and sent out as a quality item. It is anything but, buyer beware, unless you live in a cardboard house then this product is not suitable for outdoor to indoor transmission of hd signal. Appalled by this mis sell

I have had some problems with setting up the system, but before I explain that I want to say some really positive things about SMONET. As others have said the system is really a 'plug & play'. Setting up on LAN connections is really easy. The system effectively sets itself up, with very little user input required. 5* for that. Also because of the issues I have had, I have needed to use SMONET support. Having managed a 'technical support unit' myself in the past, I must say the support given has been excellent. 10* for that.Now to the issues: The first issue was that the view on the monitor kept rapidly switching between 1 & 4 windows. SMONET, having tried many options to resolve the problem, sent a replacement NVR (controller). The problem remaining is one of wifi connectivity. SMONET say the wifi distance is upto 30m in open air, but I am having issues with just 20m with just 1 wall between NVR and camera. They are sending me an extension antenna.

This is a great CCTV kit for the DIY enthusiast. Easy plug and play installation with excellent wireless link between the 4 cameras and receiver. Able to view remotely on iPad or iPhone using the recommended app. If the receiver is too far from the router, a wireless broadband extender can be used. For direct viewing the receiver can be connected to most TVs using a HDMI cable. The day and night images are very good for such a reasonably priced kit. I have used the system for over 4.5 years and am very impressed. I recently experienced problems with dropped WiFi connectivity. Despite being out of warranty the support provided by the US company advisor Shiny was fantastic. He responded within 24 hours of receiving my email and provided an upgrade to the receiver software. That's impressive customer service.

The NVR and 4x cameras arrived on time and were relatively easy to set up. They work ok by linking to my home network. What is extremely disappointing is that after many, many attempts I simply cannot access the cameras remotely on my phone or computer. The telephone support line does not work and no email response for the last 2 weeks !I bought these are they were claimed to be easy to access via a smart phone and laptop - with reviews to support ! I am a competent IT person and so disappointed. I will ask for a full refund as they are not as advertised.

I have been using this system for over a year now and has been working like the first day. The image quality at 1080 is very clear, even at night. Also, their support team is very helpful. I upgraded to the latest software version and found one issue so I contacted them and they replied right away (thank you Emily). Not a lot of vendors care about their users, especially after a year so I would definitively recommend this system and this brand.

Would have given it 5 stars if the unit could connect wirelessly with my router, but still a really good system
