One of the Best headphones the reviewers didn't like!
You will probably have come across quite a few reviews from the so called expert reviewing sites which tell you that the Denon MM400 are Ok....ish!....Not so good at slipping in your pocket once you get to work!.......A bit iffy with the choice of wooden ear cups!......and so on and so on. What they don't tell you is that the guy / gal who did the review was probably about as knowledgable on audio as they are about astro physics or rain forest conservation.I have been in the audio industry since the early 70's so I've picked up some valuable listening time since. These headphones are worth twice the asking price if not more.........don't argue! just buy! You can thank me later.Enjoy!

Great cans at a fab price.
I love these headphones, but they have made it clear to me just how poor the sound quality of some of my mp3 files is. By not putting most of the emphasis on the lower register but instead having a nuanced tone these can be used for any kind of music. If you are looking for headphones that drown out mid range and treble in a sea of bass then these are not for you. I use them for spoken word, EDM, Metal, Industrial, Hip hop and classical. They handle kraftwerk and Carcass with equal aplomb. The sound is great across the board where my old Sennheisers struggled. I am extremely pleased with my purchase. The walnut finish might not be for everyone (I really like it) and if your ears are on the large side the cups may be uncomfortable but other than that there is no reason not to get these.Update: Having had them for a while now I can honestly say that if you are looking for comfortable and great sounding headphones these are great. My wife now wants a pair of her own but I fear they have gone up in price by nearly £50 since I bought mine. Still worth it I'd say.

Stunning value for money
These cans are stunning value for money, but can feel a little tight after a time on your ears. The sound quality is brilliant with loads of detail, but these are not for everyone. They offer a flat presentation meaning bad recordings have nowhere to hide. The likes of Hounds of Love by Kate Bush and Saturday Night Fever OST (various) don't sound great, owing to the way they were mastered. But find a good recording and these babies will reward you with a nice soundstage and enough detail to reveal nuances in your music you may have missed before.I actually prefer these to my B&W P7 headphones. At this price point, what have you got to lose?

Big pile of Meh
After breaking them in for a few hours, I was disappointed by both the build and sound quality and decided to return them. The headphones come with a cheap, plastic cable which is not replaceable due to its custom headphone jack. The sound attempts to be natural and analytical, but it simply sounds boring with a surprising lack of low end and weirdly bright and screechy highs. For the price, you can get much better analytical headphones. The wood finish felt cheap and plasticky, and the whole construction felt flimsy which is surprising as it’s all metal.

Warm sound, beautiful construction, awkward to use
These headphones have a warm sound so not quite reference level flat sound. The sound is quite enjoyable for every day use. Details you get are about average. Compared to Sony MDR1A, the bass is less muddy on these although not what you would call tight, mids are about average and highs are a bit recessed/rolled off. Sound stage is about average for any closed back headphones so no euphoric sound here. One negative is the odd weight distribution. The wood/metal/leather earcups are beautiful and comfortable for average sized users. However the head band is quite heavy so the overall feel is of a bit top heaviness. The inside of the headbands is also a slippery nylon type material so the headphones are prone to slide off.

Still they are totally outclassed by my philips fidelio even though the price differance between the products is not that great. Headphones are verry well made and good looking
Audio quality is ok for the price range.Still they are totally outclassed by my philips fidelio even though the price difference between the products is not that great.Headphones are very well made and good looking. Excellent i would say.But i cannot say the same for the cables. The cables provided are very short and flimsy. This has been noted by other reviews as well.Another issue with this product also noted by other reviewers is that the Jack 3,5mm input is deep inside a weirdly shaped oval cavity.Generic jack to jack cables DO NOT fit.A specialised denon jack is needed or a very thin adapter.

Good sound but build quality does not last
Have owned a pair for over 2 years now. Was initially very happy, the sound is nice and I could wear the pair all day sat at work without any aches where the headphones sat.Over the 2 years however the wire inside the headband connecting the right cup to the input cable gave out on 2 occasions. I returned the headphones within the warranty period each time so got a free repair, but the exact same thing happened twice, despite these headphones living on my work desk and not being treated badly. The rubber keeping the leather ear cups attached to the headphones also gave out recently so I replaced those myself. In summary they are good headphones but the build quality doesn't stand the test of time and I'll be replacing them soon when the cable in the headband gives way a third time, given these are now out of the 2 year warranty. For the price I would expect more longevity

Good sound, Good Looks, BAD building quality
Really like the soundReally like the look and the wood outside.HOWEVER1. the special hole for the headphones cable (only for these headphones) is utter idiocy. It means you HAVE to buy specific replacement cables that only work on these headphones. And my first set broke after 6 months2. After 5 years of what has been only gentle home use the glue on the ear guards has come undone. For a product this expensive I would not recommend nor buy again.
