Hi, It is a small "round" type, like a watch battery, Number LR 44.

Is there one with an on/off switch?

No, there's no switch. The batteries last about 6 months.

Can you turn the beeper off? (I need a simple, soundless timer to use inside the interpreter's booth at conferences.)

Can be set to Reset and that will change the time. The beeper is very quiet though, can be easily turned off
