No the edge guard only covers one side. Beware buying this product sent mine back as spinner sheared off during first use. Very poor quality compared to earlier models.

i bought one earlier this year. spread width depends on speed you walk and size of what you are spreading. I am spreading about 4 to 5 feet widths for lawn feed and weed
