Just what I needed
Ive been hunting with my 30-30 for quite a few years now and I could tell it just wasnt shooting as straight as it use to. So I started looking for a bore sight I could use to see exactly have off my gun was. At first I went to academy and purchased one that was made to fit a .22 all the way up to a 50 cal.....$50.....HUGE waste of money. Long story short, it did not work. Spent a few days looking around on amazon and found this. Almost looked to good to be true, and lucky for me it was exactly what I needed. I first tested it on my fathers 30-30 that had recently been sighted in. Laser lined up right on target. I then put it in mine and as I assumed, I was off by bout 3 inches down and to the left. For $15 I was able to see how off my gun was and sight it in accordingly. If I would have taken it to a gun shop, it would have cost me well over $100 for them to sight it in. This purchase was well worth the money. The only reason I am giving a 4 star grade and not a 5 has to do with 2 things. One, the cartridge would get hung up in the chamber and I would have to use my knife to pull it out, not really a big deal. Two, the only way to turn it off is to take the batteries out. Just a tad of an inconvenience, but again not a big deal at all. This purchase was well worth it and I would, and have, recommend it to anyone that is looking for a similar product.

**Update** Not as advertised, received broken. Will update upon hearing from seller.
True to my word, I said I would update my review upon hearing from the seller. Seller states that they now sell the bore-sights made of brass because brass is better and less prone to wear. I guess that's debatable, but they should update the picture to reflect the true product you're receiving. They did ask me to try a new set of batteries before sending me a replacement, which cost about as much as the sight itself. I had to go buy new batteries and report back to them, which delayed the shipment of the new one by 3 days because instead of shipping it on Friday when I sent the email, they didn't ship a replacement until the following Monday. All in all, they did as good as can be expected. I realize that I bought a $9 bore-sight, not a $70.00 one, so I understand that they'll be some quality control issues.**Original Review**Boresighter will not stay on, when it comes on it is very dim, and even then it does not stay on more than 20 seconds before turning off. It is also not the same one pictured. The one pictured is a red one, and the one I received is brass.I would like the one I ordered to be shipped out immediately, as I need this rifle bore-sighted ASAP. I will update the review I am leaving upon hearing back from seller, once I understand why the one I ordered was not shipped, and why I received a different one that appears to be of much lower quality.

At last a great idea in laser bore sighting!
This is a great idea for bore sighting. I have tried the end of the barrel mounted bore sighting tools only to find it was not centered with the bore of the rifle. This shell laser drops into the chamber and since it shines down the center of the barrel, it can not be off center. This one allows me to close the action of my Marlin 336 XTS so the lever is out of the way of the gun vise and I can level the gun and make sure the scope is level. To start with the laser dot should be about the same distance below the cross hairs of the scope as the barrel is from the center of the scope. In other words if you have a high mounted scope that is 2 inches higher than the center of your bore, then the sight picture through the scope should show the laser dot about 2 inches lower than the crosshairs. You can center the crosshairs up on the red laser dot, just not down covering it. Anyway this is a better way of sighting in your guns than trying to look through the bore with a mirror or looking down the bore of a bolt action rifle and then trying to match the scope with what you see. I would reccomend these for anyone who is not a gunsmith and is sighting their gun in for the first time. I suggest taking the batteries out after use to save them from running down.

Trick to making it work right
As most people say, the batteries do die quick, but I figured out a couple of things after the fact. First, when you open it up to install the batteries, there is a little clear plastic sleeve that lines the area where the batteries go; leave it in (it's not trash or packing). It keeps the batteries from grounding to the case and causing the laser to not work properly (wasted half of my battery life before I put the plastic back in and got it working right). Second; completely remove the batteries in between using the laser, because the batteries drain if they are in the device. Yes, even if taking it out for five minutes to make adjustments. That will prolong the battery life. Loosening the cap is not enough, because the laser may not be shining, but the batteries are still draining.Overall, it did what it was supposed to do and sighted close enough that I knew my shots would be low and right at the range. I made small adjustments at home, but was conservative, then got to the range and walked my shots onto the target, because I knew they were low and right (thanks to this device).

Just what I needed!
This bore sight works very well. Put batteries in, insert into chamber, close breech, adjust laser sight...that's all there is to it. I didn't have trouble with laser working. I noticed without closing the breech, the laser was not tight and the beam not settled, so I carefully closed the breech. Upon sighting the red/green dot sight, I carefully opened the breech, and before ejecting, I grasped the bore sight and kept it from being thrown out. I was prepared ahead of time to adjust the sight by removing it's protective caps and having a screwdriver handy. Contrary to others, my bore sight did not loose battery power during the five minutes or so it was projecting a beam. If it had, I think my hearing aid batteries are the same size, so that base was covered. I sighted my 30-30 in at 37 yards by sitting at the kitchen table, opening the sliding door, and shining the laser into a dark garage....through snow! This is one powerful laser because I did it at 1 o'clock in the afternoon. When I got done, I put the bore sight back in the chamber, and checked to see if a different position would give a different reading...was right on. This bore sight is handy to carry along in case one questions dot sight accuracy after an accidental bump.
