This book sucks.
This book sucks.Condition of Rental: I received this rental in dismal condition, with worn pages that were separating from the hard cover of the book. Little did I know it would only get worse from there. Now, half of the pages have separated entirely from the spine of the hardcover and from the binding of the remaining pages, and I am left with two "books" to try and keep together by the end of my rental term. I will likely have to pay full-price for this book based on damage that someone else did (and the natural consequence of it over time), so I am considering not even returning the book despite not having any use for it after this semester. That brings me to the quality of the book...Book Quality: This part doesn't matter as much since if you are a student, you are bound to the mercy of your professors and your deans, but let me reassure you that this book's quality sucks about as much as its arriving condition did. I consider myself to be of average intelligence, but trying to parse through the convoluted explanations of the author was an exercise in futility and I often found myself relying more on YouTube videos, Slader solutions (which suck btw.), class lectures, and my professor's office hours than anything else this book could ever offer me.So...good luck, fellow student. May the determinants be with you. This book actually deserves one star, but it gets one extra star because I can imagine writing a textbook isn't easy.

There are better Linear Algebra books out there....
This is a very mediocre linear algebra text. I took an accelerated course over the summer using it, and it's just "okay". Most of the examples don't provide any "ah ha" moments - they aren't very insightful. I have more than a few Linear Algebra texts on my shelf and this one doesn't stack up against the others very well. The problem sets are good, and most chapters have a section on proofs/working with proofs which is important. This text has a lot of mathematical formalism, which is good if you have a good grasp on the formalism used in mathematics(and if you want to go into mathematics), but if one isn't that familiar with that type of formalism, the problems and examples may seem hard to understand. There comes a point when you are trying to explain an abstract topic to a beginning Linear Algebra student when you need to just step back and explain the idea in "everyday" language, and drop the formalism for a minute, so you can wrap your head around it - this text never does that which may leave you struggling to understand the language being used, let alone the actual idea/theorem.Overall "okay"

Excellent book
I am perplexed by some of the reviews other users have left, but this is an excellent Linear Algebra book. Some important Theorems you might need to know aren't BOLDED like some other textbooks, but they are written on there with much detail. There are also many example problems from each sections (I used this book from chapters 1-7).I came into Linear Algebra as somebody who couldn't compute a simple matrix - I feel like I've mastered this subject now for my 3000 level class.Chapters 1-3 do a great job of detailing the basics of Matrices, chapters 4-7 are more applications toward matrices and vectors.

Underated
I actually liked this book. Straight forward and easy to understand. The thing is that this is Linear Algebra, so the course is actually very abstract and at times the book did not help. I had to go a little beyond to find solutions but it was all worth it to learn basic Linear Algebra. The only thing I did not like was that there were no shown solutions to proof exercises.

Meh...
Spine slightly damaged. Iโve had to glue it back together three times.Difficult to read. Itโs not an absolute disaster, but the content feels like it was written for mathematicians or people already familiar with linear algebra. Especially in later chapters. Although it doesnโt feel like it was written for the average learner, there are some great connections and insights to be found.

What can you say for a math book. There are answers to off numbers in the back of the book. There are step by step instructions but you couldn't teach yourself the material. More step by step examples would be beneficial.

seller "second bind" sent such a poor condition book listed as "like new".
used book was not at all in a "like new" condition. severely over-rated and inflated pricing for a book that was in "acceptable condition".

A really good textbook, it was simple enough that I could self-teach myself a lot of the principles it teaches, and the benefit on having a textbook on ebook is that it is searchable for terms and methods that I ran into in later chapters if I was skipping through the book and not covering in the sequence given. A really good explanation and presentation of the concepts, though it is not always clear, but can always be sorted out. The theorems were also laid out very clearly.
