Super effective and most importantly- don’t harm my bird
Was very nervous of using these as didn’t want to harm my rescue girl or cause any discomfort as I’m devoted to all my pets but this girl had suddenly got a habit of plucking feathers off just one of her mates and I was having to separate them to protect my other birds which wasn’t kind either. I got my vet to put them in safely and verify they weren’t cruel. Amazingly she seemed totally unbothered by them straightaway which is unusual - videos on You Tube showed initial discomfort for some. Ever since, she has joined the others in foraging and eating and drinking happily. It does take a little more time for her to find the food but she still eats well despite restricted front vision and as soon as my other birds feathers grow back am hoping to remove them as the habit will be broken by then - well thats the plan! Peace is resumed now and I can stop worrying and monitoring her every 5 mins and they are a happy integrated gang again, harmony restored! Super happy to have found these by google search - simple but so effective. It’s the 1st time in 15 yrs of keeping rescue hens that I had any birds feather plucking even with large house and plenty of room to roam but it happened after a rat attacked one of my hens at night and the stress it caused them I’m sure upset the pecking order. I also found an amazing product to protect dressings from Bumblefoot getting wet after operation and giving cushioning to sore part (birdie booties) US - amazing too and a hen jacket to protect my rat injured bird’s wounds which left a huge open wound on her back. Jacket meant she could be safe still without isolating her.whilst healing. Amazing what a google search brings up!

Yes they work, no the are not harmless.
I had a severe case of feather pecking and resorted to pinless peelers for 2 of my girls. The good news is they did work. The bad news is they do seem to cause pain. One of my girls managed to break hers off with about a week of putting them on. She had blood pouring down her beak and i didn't put one back on her. The second girl i left the peepers on her for a few months, thinking it was doing her no harm. My girls were all nicely feathered again, I thought all was well. She was a terror for plucking feathers before while the others were dust bathing, she even did it when free ranging 🙈 i took them off her today and once I did saw the top of her beak has changed. Its like its been rubbing her or causing a reaction. When i tried to touch her beak where it looks different she squealed and tried to get away. She's clearly in pain. I feel bad now.So the long and short of it is this. Yes they work to stop feather pecking. No the aren't harmless. And no, I wouldn't use them again. I have used beak bits in the past with no adverse affects (other than birds learning how to pluck feathers using the bits). So, if i ever needed to use such a thing again i would try beak bits over peepers any day.

They do actually work!
Have had a few issues with certain hens feather pecking others and have tried other measures to prevent this but to no avail. Put these chicken glasses on & straight away they've made a massive difference. The whole flock is calmer & we've had no more pecking at the lower ranking birds! All birds fitted with them were back foraging within 10mins & now (less than 48hrs later) do not seem bothered by them at all.

Seem to help with pecking
Fiddly to put on and the hens are not fans of them, but they do appear to be helping with the pecking.

They can be clawed off by chicken
These are a good idea however 2 out of the 3 chickens I put them on have managed to get them off. They are really hard to put on the chicken by yourself so 2 people definitely needed.

Does the job
Since putting this on my hen, she hasn’t attacked the other.. tried to of course but failed miserably. For those wanting to know how to fix it on the chicken, there’s a great tutorial on YT by Venezia Farms.

Worked well but be sure they can still feed
Not the easiest to install managed to bend them apart with my hands , had the desired effect but one fiesty hen got hers off in two days. Should be noted that these will stop the hens feeding from certain feeders as they can’t get their beaks fully into the tray so beware !
