They say you stay warmer if your head is covered. I cycle a lot in Alaska. My body runs on the hot side but I still chill when wet and/or stop too long. This cap is thin and light yet adds enough heat retention to make a difference. Whether hiking or biking, this cap does give a good return of heat for something too small and light. It fits well when wearing a bicycle or climbing helmet.

Great sun protection and swear absorption. Easy to wash. Great value, especially when purchased in packages.

Update 2/18/25: I really needed more of these beanie hats as I lost my last one recently. I decided to order one of each color to see if there are differences, as even recent reviewers state either too small or perfect fit.What I found is, there are three different “sizes” of this supposedly one-size-fit-all product. The second picture tries to visualize that. Red and olive are laughably short. Maybe fit a child’s head. On my “L” head, white and grey just reach the earlobes. OK for most situations but in stormy weather, cold air will enter your ears. Blue and black are the longest and fully close off your ears.I tried to contact the company a while ago about their sizing issue. Never heard back. Sad!In any case, I hope this review helps others pick the right size and avoid their misfits.—-I had purchased two of these beanie hats in the past to fit under a bike helmet and as a light-weight and comfy hat for hiking and outdoors. I lost one of them and purchased a new one.To my disappointment, the current product is very different. Look at the pictures that I attached. The material is over an inch shorter, almost like a kids hat. It doesn’t cover the ears at all (unlike shown in the product pictures). Also, the cloth is different. Previously it was soft and comfu material. Now it feels cool and plasticky, not pleasant for cool weather.I don’t know what changed in their production but unfortunately I’ll need to look elsewhere for a replacement now. I really loved the old model.

I use this as a sleep cap to prevent scratching (my head itches). I was a little leery about the heat at first but this cap is great !
