As long as gravity is there it works.
Brilliant device no power needed keeps working no matter what. Just what I like cheap when compared to the alternatives, reliable.

Maybe ok on sail boats
A great idea that does not work on power boats. It needs resetting after each journey - so only ok in slow marina manoeuvres.

Very useful aid.
I have used this Rudder Position Indicator on my Day Boat for the major part of a season and it works well, I have a rudder attached to my outboard motor which in turn is concealed so knowing which way it is pointing when starting off from a mooring, especially in locks, is very useful indeed. Attached with velcro it is easy to remove which I do when home mooring, for accurate replacing I have put a small marker on my wheel.

rudder control
Very good this is the second rudder guide we have had, on separate boats. We can always tell where the rudders are at a glance. always useful when going down rivers and turning in tight circles.

Loses track of engine centre
The indicator works very well - up to a point. Maybe it’s the fast rate of turn and quantity of turns and reversals typical of powerboat training, but the indicator after about 30 minutes would indicate full port or starboard engine when the steering was straight. So had to detach the indicator, re-centre the needle and re-affix to the wheel. Fine again for another 30 minutes then just when you need it, it’s off full scale one way again. Shame as it is very helpful when it works.

Works well. Great product
My rudder indicator stopped working on my Sea Ray Sundancer 310. Rather than spend a small fortune fixing the indicator, I purchased this indicator and mounted it to the helm.Installation was easy and it works really well. I used Velcro so I could easily remove it or re-calibrate.When I took it out of the box, it wasn't centred. To center the indicator quickly, I just rolled it on a table to centre the indicator and then ensured my engines were centered prior to mounting.

It didn't work for me, but it does work.
In my case, my hydraulic steering wheel slips so much that the gauge calibration is lost within a few full turns of the wheel. However, the gauge itself works great. So, if you have a repeatable steering setup like a cable driven steering system or some other type of mechanical steering that allows the steering wheel to reliably return to the same position, I'm sure the gauge will work great for you.As to why my hydraulic steering slips so much, my guess is that my steering wheel uses an impeller pump of some type which works fine for steering, but due to the impeller pump's inherent internal leakage, does cause the wheel position to shift over time. In my case, after just a few full turns of the wheel.Bottom line, I would say that this gauge isn't really compatible with the typical hydraulic steering wheel, but I'm still giving it 5 stars because ir does work very well if your steering is repeatable.

Handy!
This is a great little aid to know which direction the wheel is turned we leave the dock or go to depart a lock. Easy to apply and use.

Works like a charm
Love this product. Own a 21 ft 30-year-old inboard/outboard boat with 2 1/2 turns steering lock to lock. The $50 CDN price tag is, in my opinion, excessive and it almost stopped me from purchasing it. However, after installation, I'll just grit my teeth and accept it as it now lets me know at a glance where my outdrive is pointing which is critical when swinging the stern to line up with boat lift with current and wind pushing. The unit is accurate and responsive and was easy to set up and mount.

Just installed it I need appears it will function as designed.
This will be helpful for my kids driving our boat as they don’t drive it enough to get a natural feel for the rudder position. When you install it, make sure you line up the two white lines on the instrument otherwise it will not be properly aligned. The mounting adhesive seems a little weak, so we’ll see how that works out.
