Works, but Makes Awful Noise
These do what they're supposed to do: light up. However, I am 43 years old and I can CLEARLY hear the LOUD, high-pitched "hum" coming from both the battery compartment AND the connector on the light panel. Would absolutely drive me nuts if this was part of any sort of project where it was a wearable or involved video.

Very small
Giving 5 stars but I was unable to use this item. Completely my fault for assuming this item was 12 inches, rather than 12 centimeters. This review is simply to remind any future buyers that the item is described using centimeters, NOT inches.

Great backlight for LCD displays
This is a very pleasing (yellow) backlight. I am using it to replace an edge lit LED display for my clock radio. The stock backlite is a very weak blue, hard to read the display in the dark. This EL backlite is AMAZING with enough "warm" light to see every TFT in the display. The only drawback is that it is battery powered. I will have to figure a way to "tap" 3VDC from the clock-radio DC supply, should be simple enough.

Emits High Pitched Tone
The media could not be loaded. When switched on this emits an annoying high pitched tone tending the light basically useless. Specifically it’s the transformer that emits the noise but also the connection on the light panel.

Serves it purpose, not very bright however
This is not very bright. I used to fix an old device and it just was not bright enough. I suppose in the absolute dark, it is OK, but barely visible in daylight. Has it's uses, I suppose.

EL Panel Light
Nice light. I have a few of these type panels and they give off an even, diffuse light. Not bright, not dim. So of like those emergency stick lights that you break and shake, but these are brighter. Also got a lavender colored one (although when it's not lit it is more of a pink color).

Very cool, but makes a buzzing noise
This electroluminescent panel is really cool and brighter than I expected. Basically you connect the sheet to the little power supply that comes with the sheet and it lights up when you turn it on. The power supply also has modes that make the sheet flash at various intervals. The light isn’t that bright in normal lighting, but in the dark or even in dim light it really stands out. What’s really cool is that you can cut it into whatever shape you want (as long as it’s still connected to the wire). In the picture I cut mine and you can see it compared with the cut pieces in dim lighting. Unfortunately you can’t supply your own power to the sheet, because I tried to connect it to a DC supply and it did not light up. I believe the power supply is pulsing in some way to make it illuminate, which explains the somewhat annoying buzzing sound it makes when turned on.

Works well, bright but not overwhelming light
I'm thinking about using this in a cluster enclosure with some acrylic layers, to add a bit of accent to what's otherwise a stack of boards on clear plastic shelves. I kinda got it on a whim, but it could lead to some interesting projects. It's easy to operate, although the battery compartment takes a bit of pressure to open. Two AA batteries in the case, connect the battery lead to the panel lead, and press the button. You get solid, fast blink, slow blink, and off, and the LED next to the power button on the battery compartment shows the setting as well. There's no adjustment to the brightness.
