When Mimi first started jogging on a treadmill as an unfit 36-year-old mother-of-three, she never imagined she would go on to become a World-Record-breaking ultrarunner. After coming to terms with the anorexia that had impacted her life from a young age, Mimi begins to reassess her relationship with food and finds a new resolve in running. With a renewed sense of purpose, she decides to take the sport that saved her life to the next level, training hard and throwing herself in at the deep end by entering the epic Marathon des Sables in the Sahara desert, despite still being a novice runner. One startling success leads to another, as she finds herself taking on ever-more-challenging races - from the Badwater Ultramarathon in Death Valley, USA, to the 6633 Arctic Ultra - all building up to her biggest challenge yet: attempting to gain the Guinness World Record time for a female running 840 miles from John o'Groats to Land's End. This incredible story of how an ordinary mum ran her way into the record books will inspire beginner runners and die-hard marathon devotees alike, proving that, no matter where life takes you, it's never too late to achieve your dreams and do the impossible. Review: Searingly honest. - The frankness with which Mimi details her childhood trauma was almost impossible to read. Her journey beyond that is simply wonderful to read and truly inspirational Review: Plenty of great tips and stories about past races and challenges. Thumbs up! - Great book going from why Mimi got started running (and the inevitable slippery slope it is into ultras and multiday challenges). The Jogle (Jon o Groats to Land's end) record challenge provides the spine to the book, with neat diversions off into experiences of other key races and events at the appropriate places. Plenty in here too about how her crew coped with the challenges - so some useful points there for crew or for runner to tell crew. Also some useful tips (which are through out the book as memories of races where things went right or wrong) and useful ways to get yourself motivated when you're getting crushed late on during an ultra. Great book and very well written in a very natural and professional way too. Thumbs up from me!

Brilliant read
What an inspiring lady! In this book she tells her running story, kind of intertwined with her john o groats to land end run, and I'm pretty certain she could write another one too. I'd have like to have read more about her GUCR and other UK ultra runs and peoples he has met along the way, but the stories she did tell were amazing, and as I said earlier, inspirational.

Interesting story poorly written
Mimi is obviously an great athlete and you can't but admire her determination but this book does not flow in the manner of other authors in this genre, such as Vassos Alexander or Anna McNuff. It is a pity as there is a great story to tell but I found the recounting of races a bit laboured and there was a tendency to say the same thing more than once.

Gripping, heartwarming, interesting, inspiring and truly wonderful- you won't be able to put it down
A MUST read. I could not recommend this book more to anyone. Without a doubt the best book I have EVER read. This was a completely real story from start to finish written by someone who never set out to be a world record holder or a champion, but her love of something drove her this way. Mimi's journey is inspiring and makes you want to jump up and think about what you can do to challenge yourself, making anything feel possible. It makes you feel as superhuman as she is. It shows you can be successful it many different ways - the story warms your heart in many ways.

Inspiring read
This book is one I would recommend for inspiration and motivation. We can't all run ultra marathons but we can all achieve goals we set our minds to.
