Good kettle - no problems here
This was bought to replace a supermarket own brand suddenly leaking kettle which lasted around 12 months. After having a quick look around this one seemed to be a good choice and cheap enough thanks to the reviews. It came in a box with the corded base and an instruction booklet. There is a one year guarantee with this one. I have uploaded a few pics to accompany this review. It's a nice looking kettle you get here. It's stainless steel so easy to keep/wipe clean. The element inside is concealed which means it will last longer and work more efficiently. There is a measuring window either side of the body which goes upto 6 cups or 1.7 litres. When boiling water this window is illuminated by a blue light which goes off once boiled - a nice visual touch which I like as somebody who comes from a family with visually impaired people. The electric cord is approx 26 inches long. The lid opening mechanism is easy and smooth and there is a filter in the spout. The spout is also perforated which aids a steady stream when pouring so it doesn't go all over the place! This is a 3kw kettle so it does boil quick but with power comes noise! It is a bit noisy but that's the way it goes if you want a quicker boil. It's not that bad to be honest - it won't wake the baby anyway! :)I like this kettle and think it will last some time longer than my last one. If you're looking for a good but inexpensive kettle - you won't go far wrong choosing this one. Recommended.I will update this review if anything comes up or it explodes or something!6th Nov 2015 - quick update just to say that this kettle is still working spot on here and being used daily. No issues at all!

Solid performer so far. Well built, very fast, but quite noisy.
This Russel Hobbs "Orleans" model is replacing a Breville "still hot" illuminated stainless steel kettle that's been in daily use for the last 18 months. (My last 3 kettles have all been Breville's & each one has come with at least 1 seriously annoying problem. Averaging the longevity of the last 3 too, it works out at about 15 months per kettle which is pretty poor considering they were all more expensive than this RH kettle. It was definitely time for a different trusted high street brand). Externally, there isn't a massive difference between the old & new, they are quite similar. Obviously, the Breville had the colour changing LED's which was VERY handy to quickly & visually know if the water was still hot enough to save reboiling. Otherwise, whilst the Breville was reasonably quiet & boiled quickly, it had various minor structural & aesthetic cons right out of the box new. The stainless steel lid especially began to rust from venting steam after just 3 weeks of use which was also incredibly poor, the spout began to follow soon afterwards too.Initially, I thought the lid only opened up to a maximum of 40 degrees on this RH Orleans kettle!! However, the lid can actually be FULLY opened up to 90 degrees manually for easier refilling or cleaning. (It is somewhat restrictive trying to refill with the lid only up to the point it lifts to automatically, (will include a pic for reference)). I can understand the safety reasons for this design compared to previous kettles I've owned that could very easily give you a face full of scalding steam if you weren't paying attention. The obvious downside with the lid on this RH model is the potential risks of scalding the hands if you do need to fully lift the lid manually! (I've simply developed a method of actually using my mixer tap to ease the lid fully open rather than using my hands). This RH Orleans kettle is considerably noisier than my old kettle too, it's not exactly a quiet kettle!! It's not an issue for me personally, but some may find the noise annoying & there are undoubtedly quieter kettles available if a noisy kettle is an issue. Ultimately, these are more observations than outright criticisms to be fair & the issues with the lid & noise really will come down to subjectivity & individual circumstances.Other than that, no major complaints. It's solidly built, it looks good, & it's well finished with the polished stainless steel. It does boil very quickly if just filled to boil 1 or 2 cups, & it's still fast enough when filled to the maximum as well. All of the plastic parts such as the handle feel solid & they all fit well too. (I will miss the useful "still hot" illumination, but I just wasn't prepared to spend anymore money on another Breville knowing the issues I've repeatedly had with the brand in the past). The illumination on this RH is bright enough to see in daylight (as long as it's not in direct sunlight), & it only illuminates when the kettle is actively heating. The plastic water level windows on both sides are nice & wide with clear visibility of the water level, & clear markings, (they don't rely on floats that often get scaled up & become ineffective over time). The handle feels solid & the kettle is well balanced at differing fill levels. The on/off switch has a solid tactile feedback, it immediately trips to the off position if the kettle is lifted off the base, & it won't engage if the kettle is not on the base. The lid (including the button & catch) all works as intended & seems well made, although the lid's catch mechanism does look a little small & lightweight. Only extended time/use will tell how well that holds up, (I'll update this review if scale becomes a serious issue or if it wears particularly quickly, etc.). The base is firm & allows any excess cable to be easily stored. It just has 3 small rubber feet underneath for grip on worktops, etc., which is sufficient but not exactly outstanding depending on the actual surface. (I also noticed a customer question asking how long the cable was before my purchase - One reply stated 2 metres (which is simply impossible), & another stated it was 1 metre. However, the lead at full extension with the kettle I've received is EXACTLY 63 cm's ONLY)!! Thankfully, it's plenty long enough for my kitchen, but some may find this lead is too short. The spout pours very well indeed & the water actually goes exactly where intended, (my Breville's have often poured more by approximation than precision, even when new or fully de-scaled, & with a properly cleaned filter). Thus far, am quite happy with this RH Orleans kettle overall. It suits my needs perfectly well &/or I've easily adjusted to any potential issues (such as the lid). The kettle comes in simple retail packaging with cardboard inserts for travel protection. The manual is in clear English & also provides warranty details, etc., as well. The kettle is very simple to use & maintain. From its performance thus far, I WOULD purchase another if I broke it myself or it failed outside of the warranty period. For the price, everything is certainly acceptable. I would recommend one & I'm happy to rate at 4 stars (the lid being the reason why I'm dropping a star).

Recommended and stylish.
Great kettle. No problems. This is our third one of the same style. We run 2 kettles like this and the thing that goes on this kettle and others of this style is the lid catch (lid pings up) and is unuseable, or the inner electrics blow. But we drink tea all the time up to 20 cups a day easily... so, it gets a hammering. Cheap to run, we had an electricity monitor on this and its really economical too. All you need for a nice cuppa in a hurry. Not too noisy either.

All pros, no cons
Russell Hobbs 19390 Orleans Polished Kettle, 1.7 L, 3000 W - Stainless Steel Silver Very happy with this kettle. It boils quickly and efficiently and looks good - which is all you need in a kettle. Some reviews mention that the lid only opens a short way when you push the button - if you want it fully open you can pull the lid back to a vertical, fully open position. If you're wanting to pour a full kettle, say into a pan, the spout is a little small to cope so I just open the lid fully. It pours perfectly for a mug.

Love this kettle
This is the third of these kettles I have bought over the years as I love this kettle. Very reasonable price, looks lovely and classy. I haven’t actually used this particular one. I always keep a new kettle in reserve ever since one of my kettles gave up the ghost on Christmas Day when family were staying. It was such a pain, I vowed that would never happen again. Hence having one kettle in reserve. Since I have done this, you’ve guessed it, my kettles have worked well and the only time I replace them is when our hard water clogs them up and they start to look awful. But I can highly recommend this kettle
