Effective patio door lock
Relatively easy to install - the instructions are clear but depending on your door type, it may be a bit difficult to fit a drill into the frame to drill the deadbolt hole. Once installed it is very solid and the door cannot be moved or lifted. It works better than a dowel rod in the door frame or the flimsy foot locks. The bolt and lock are solid metal and operate smoothly. Once installed, it blends in with the door. My only complaint is the plastic pieces that cover the holes are off-white and do not match but it's a minor cosmetic issue. Overall this is a nice, simple lock that should last for years.

Line everything up. Double check it before you screw it in.
My slider door lock broke and wouldn’t lock. We’ve been using a security bar but that was a pain to put on every time. I had this type of latch in my other house and it still works there 30 years later. So I looked for the same latch and I was thrilled I found it. I was especially happy it was reasonably priced. This product is great. Very strong. Good reinforcements for security. The keys didn’t work but that’s not a deal breaker for me. The hardest part for me is that I don’t have a lot of arm strength to do projects over my head. I marked everything off and you definitely have to double check your marks before you start drilling and screwing this in. It took a while drilling through the metal frame but I very pleased now that it’s up. It’s a fairly easy project if you’re a little handy or an expert at installing things. I didn’t find it complicated at all. The only part that confused me was how to get the bolt out to install it. But turn it a little because it has a grove that keeps it from falling out. I definitely would buy it again if I needed one. It’s worth the effort.

Patio Slider with Dog Door
We use this on the inside of our patio door, now that we have dog door installed. Works great and I feel secure.

Screw covers slightly different cover but keeps toddler from getting out
Installed on sliding door, works fantastic so far. Everything feels really sturdy and installation was a breeze with my tool set (drill, multiple bits to size up to 3/8" hole diameter in frame, standard bit impact with long #2 phillips to set mounting screws)Only real complaint is the screw hole covers are a slightly different color which makes them stand out.

Secure, even when the pin is "Unlocked" - Perfect for Dog Doors
Was a little skeptical until I saw someone else's review that mentioned the pin does not move even if you attempt to shake the door. The pin does not move on its own, at all. Even with the key unlocked, it is extremely secure in the housing. I don't think I'll ever have a need to lock the pin using the keys unless I plan on leaving town and think someone's going to use my back door to make off with my fridge.I just got this installed, took all of 10-15 minutes to install 2 locked locations; One with the door fully closed, and another with the door fully closed with my dog door installed. We got this because we have a sliding glass dog door insert and were tired of using splintery wood poles to secure the door at night.Locking and unlocking is super easy and my GF who's 5'3" can easily reach the pin. We've got a 78" tall sliding door, so the lock sits at 74" high.I think I ended up putting it a little high by about an inch. Ended up needing to drill through the 2nd top layer of the frame and into the 2x4 frame. But hey, now it's even more secure ¯\_(ツ)_/¯Without the keys in the keyhole, I can open my door all the way as the lock body is thinner than the door and slides back into the empty space at the end of the track. With the keys install it hits the back. However, I was able to turn one of the plastic stops sideways, forcing the door the stop half an inch sooner, which resolved that issue.

This lock works on a patio door with an outside track!
I wasn't sure this lock would fit our needs, because I couldn't find anything definitive regarding whether or not it would work on a patio door that opened on the outside of a stationary glass panel, but I can now confirm that it works perfectly! We use it so the door will lock even though we have a dog door installed. One note on installation, you MUST leave about 1/2 an inch of space above the lock. That wasn't noted in the instructions and I didn't think about it until it was installed and I tried to open the door (our previous lock did not require any space). I could pull the bolt all the way out, but why be lazy now and pay the price forever? We had an existing pin (aka very tiny bolt) that attached in the same upper location, so we also had a little trouble drilling the 1/2" hole for the bolt, but other than those two mishaps everything was very easy. Two 1/8" holes for the lock, one 1/2" hole for the bolt and voila! This is a large and sturdy lock (it really did need a 1/2" drill bit for the bolt hole).A few notes:The bolt has to be all the way in for the key to work. The Pro-Lok does not have to be locked with the key for the bolt to stay in the secure position; the bolt is very snug in it's track, meaning it won't fall open if someone shakes the door. We probably won't lock it except when we go on vacation, since someone would more easily break the glass than get through the Pro-Lok.I hope this helps someone else decide on this item. I would recommend it to anyone.

Fail
The product only worked for about 2 months and then it stayed locked and was not able to unlock it. I had to cut it with a Dremel to get it unlocked.
