STAEDTLER 550 02 Noris School Compass with Centre Wheel, Extension Bar, Universal Adapter and Lead Box (350 mm Diameter)

Good for drawing larger circles plus I can fit a pen into it to draw inked circles. My favourite is still my Faber Castell compass but this Staedtler can do things the Faber cannot so well worth owning both.

I bought this because I needed a decent compass with a pen holder. I had persevered for some time with an old but very solid drawing kit that used ruling pens and wasn't able to hold a fine liner or a pen. I think I was a bit put off by the product name "school compass", which made me think this might not be a serious bit of kit, but I was wrong. The hinge section is metal and very secure. The interchangeable legs are plastic, but look reasonably durable. Most importantly, the compass draws a good consistent circle with no creep either wider or narrower. The pen holder, which is what I bought the kit for, will hold a pencil, mechanical pencil or fine liner, and even an extra fine sharpie, and performs just as well with these attached. With the extension bar in place, I have the range to cover anything I'm going to need to draw on an A3 sheet of paper. The only limitation is at the smaller end of the range, where there's a practical minimum radius with pen holder of about 16 or 17 mm due to the pen touching the centre wheel thread. All in all a very good instrument at a very reasonable price.

Mixed opinions on it - pro first. It’s a ok plastic box it come it. Nice that it has a ruler on it and with the pencil lead it drains nice consistent circles. Even small ones. Now the cons - it arrived with the lid unattached. It had popped off its hinge, so had to fix that. I’ve changed the pencil lead fitting for the pen attached and well …. It won’t fit. The metal post in the middle is too long. So it was work with tiny pencils and tiny pens (if they exist). Annoying as I wanted to be able to draw circles with my fine pen.

Perfect for my needs with crafting projects where large circles are needed in sewing patterns. Maximum 45cm with extension arm. Feels solid and easy to use. One spare lead and no spare needle as standard but spares are easily available.. Good price point for such a versatile instrument.

Ive now owned and tried to use this for over a year. Its terrible! Its made of awful plastic that wears and isnt accurate. The wheel slips and so you cant have any accuracy at all and the whole thing feels cheap and is poor quality....yet is expensive! The pen holder is terrible and the whole thing is falling apart. Even the case hinge gave up and no longer works. All of it is very poor. Totally disappointed by this and Ive now put it in the bin and need to start over again finding another compass, but will avoid Steadtler next time,

I think this compass is fantastic! Some other reviewers were disappointed with the plastic parts, however the main body of the compass is metal and is very sturdy! The plastic parts do not affect the use of the compass whatsoever. I use it for creating all sorts of geometric art, for which it has been great!

This was supposed to be made of quality materials - stainless steel. It isn't. It is plastic. The screws are stainless but are small and fiddly and it is difficult to change to pencil adapter. NOT worth £15. Dont know how long it will last. Disappointing as I thought I was buying German precision quality. It is not. Im not going to send it back as i needed it urgently and it does do the job.

Well made. The compass can be used not only with a lead for marking, but also with a pen. Easy to use. Well made considering it is plastic.

Der Zierkel reicht vollkommen aus und man muss nicht immer den teuersten nehmen. Es ist wichtig das der sein Zweck erfüllt und sehr präzise ist. Klare Kaufempfehlung.
