too flimsy
I had hoped this would be a good addition to my bread-baking utensils, but I found it much too lightweight and flimsy. It was difficult to slice and hold the bread in place at the same time, and the wooden slats do not resist cuts from the knife. Just not a good material for the purpose. I recycles it to Goodwill after trying it twice.

Could be better, need a much longer knife than described
The device looks nice and is very compact when folded, so in that sense it's great. However, the slats splinter say the sides and at the top edges, as there is no sealing or edging to them. It's not just when using the knife but just handling the sides to open and close them. Also, the description says you need a nine inch knife, but in reality you need a longer knife to not have it constantly slide off the guides as you cut the bread. This is because you need room to do the full knife stroke. So a 10+inch knife is probably better, but not many of us have that long a knife. So returning it to get one that's better suited for us.

Better than the other one we tried
We tried a bamboo style, but the slots were way too wide for consistent slices. This one is better. I did like the "stop" style of the other one better... this one has a pretty flimsy board with only outer wide parts attached to it, rather than being generally wider with grooves cut into it that held the slot pieces more sturdily.

No problem
Anyone who has worked with wood before knows that with slender long pieces there will be warpingand not much strength. As another reviewer pointed out, the warping does not affect the functionbecause the tines are closely spaced. One of its best features. Mine also broke after two uses but, a descentwood glue makes it stronger than the original. This was a good purchase because there are threethings I could not find on other guides that I wanted......1) thinner tines2) closely spaced tines3) without crumb collection it is easier to slice all the way to the bottom
