Stand on the scales to activate. Turn them over and to the right of the battery enclosure is a small (very small) grey button. It's like a raised dot. Press this and you can scroll through the stones, pounds or kilos. Took me a bit to find it as well

Q: Does it work for small weights like under 1 kg?

Never used for under 1kg weight. Probably better off with digital kitchen scales for that kind of measurement??
