Can you still hear your alarm through them?

I guess it probably depends on how deeply you sleep and how loud your alarm is, but I definitely can. They don't silence the sounds around me, just muffle them enough to help me sleep through the night. I can hear my fan through them, for instance, but my partner doesn't wake me up just by rolling over.

Can you disinfect/clean the silicone molding earplugs?

You can rinse them off with water. I wouldn't use any sort of cleaner. Any dirtier than that and maybe just use a new pair.

Are the good for people who sleep on their sides?

Yes, they are wax so mold to your ear and stay in well. They really keep noise out or water. I use them for swimming and to keep the husbands snoring from waking me up at night.

How do you soften the silicone ear plugs once they become hard?

The heat from your hand or finger tips softens the ear plugs to reshape them. They are kind of like the consistency of gum. They don't become hard.
