Sennheiser 505638 HD 5X8 Replacement Headphone Cable 1.2m

This cable uses four wires internally to carry the sound to the left and right by cross-wiring the L- and R- at the 3.5mm TRS end. The four wires go to a 2.5mm TRRS connector at the headphone end which has the Sennheiser twist lock. The great thing is you can cut off the unbalanced 3.5MM TRS connector and solder on any TRRS or XLR type connectors so there is no crosstalk between the left and right.I recommend you modify the longer cable (also available) for XLR and modify this one for DAP use. The wiring is specific to Sennheiser at the twistlock end ( T = L+ (white wire), R = R+ (red wire), R = L- (black wire), S = R- (blue wire) ).I did this myself using this cable so as to connect a 2.5mm TRRS for use with an Onkyo DP-X1 DAP - the sound improvement was certainly noticeable, but even without this surgery, the cable is excellent. I did this by wiring as follows - T = blue, R = red, R = white, S = black. My hack is in the picture. If you're not experienced with soldering small components and don't own a multimeter, don't think of performing this hack!The same hack works for A&K 2.5mm balanced DAPs.

This product is exactly as described and is effective at doing what it was designed to do. It is an official Sennheiser product, of identical quality to the original cord, but just over one third of its length with a much more usable 3.5mm plug. It is sensibly priced, though I bet that the manufacturing cost is a small fraction. It is perfectly suited to most of my usage (and that of many other people) and I no longer worry about knocking the chunky adapter while it protruded from my Macbook's headphone socket. Users of portable devices who prefer L-shaped plugs may like to know that this plug is straight, but only about 1" long including the strain relief.My only gripes are aimed at the manufacturer itself. Firstly; it should be easier to discover that this cable exists and it should be easier to find a stockist. It is absent from Sennheiser’s UK sub-domain (as a write this) and I could not find any other dealer which sells it. Secondly; it should be included in the box in the first place, alongside the 3m cord. Even if Sennheiser felt the need to cover it with a few extra pounds on the RRP of the headphones, they would still sell well and rightly so.

I had been put off buying the HD 598's for a long time due to the 1/4 inch jack supplied with the headphones. Having found a genuine Sennheiser cable to rectify the issue, I decided to purchase it alongside the headphones and I'd recommend them both.The only reason I gave this product 4/5 instead of 5/5 is because, as others have said, this should be included in the box.

Cable is branded Sennheiser and comes in a branded Sennheiser bag - seems like the same material and connectors as my HD558. Good stuff. A LOT more practical than the longer default cable, and no adaptor needed for laptops, smaller amps/DACs and smartphones.

Ok it does the job, looks well made, but Sennheiser are making a tidy profit out of this I think...Update 6/5/17: the original cable developed an intermittent fault. I bought a replacement, which seems fine - hope it lasts longer.

Allows me to use my Sennheiser HD598's with my iPhone. The original cable is rather long and terminated with the big fat headphone plug- by the time you put the adapter on it to reduce it to normal 3.5mm headphone socket, the length of the plug is too unwieldy.This cable solves that problem and it is a genuine Sennheiser cable- just wish they'd include it as well with HD598's especially with the amount of money the headphones cost.

The cable was delivered earlier than Amazon had predicted and was well packaged. Inside I found a OEM Sennheiser cable that works just as good as the one that originally came with my 558s, but with a 3,5 mm plug off course (no need for a bulky adapter anymore!) The length is also a bit more sensible compared to the 3 metre original one... I recommend this product.

This is a perfect replacement cable for the original sennheiser cable that it came with. This is much a smaller than the original but for me that is great because I thought the original was way too long. Would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting a shorter cable but with the same premium feel.
