Q: How can i set this up? i lost the instructions during the christmas unwrapping i plugged it in but unfortunately does not work i'm hoping i did it bad

Make sure that you've plugged the cored lines on the back of telephone correctly. Your 'wall line jack' should be plugged into 'line jack' on back of the telephone, and the part that you talk into 'handset' the cloth cord is plugged into the back of telephone 'handset line'.
