Quick and easy, really good tasting mash
I received two boxes of 12 sachets, all with a "best before end" of "April 2016", which equates to around 8 months from this time of writing. The boxes are the type shops put on the shelves directly, with one end removed to allow access. They also fit perfectly in my very typical laminated chipboard kitchen cupboards. Each pack/sachet is made of thick gauge aluminised Mylar, which is puffed out with what will likely be an inert gas like argon. This keeps the contents fresh for a long time - much longer in reality than the BBE date. The fine potato flakes mix easily with boiling water and a fork, to produce really good tasting mash - an excellent source of quick and easy complex carbohydrates.I had some with traditional pork bangers from my local butcher yesterday, and the combination was very satisfying for both myself and my dog.As long as the price remains as good as I paid, I'll most definitely be buying again :-)UPDATE (18th Oct 2016): My most recent order (I get through a lot of this stuff) was loose sachets in a large polythene bag instead of two boxes. Same stuff, less wasteful packaging: great :-)

For Mash Get Smash
When I was a wee lad there were a series of adverts for Smash, do you remember them? The Smash martians who would sit and watch images of humans mashing their own potatoes and mock them for not using instant mash.I always get all nostalgic when I see a packet of smash and those adverts from 30 years ago are worth 3 stars by themselves. It's just a shame that Smash itself is utterly foul.

A useful addition to the store cupboard
This product is a must for me - no waste, easily prepared and, if the instructions are modified, tasty. The amount of water suggested should be reduced by at least 10%, otherwise the result is too liquid; the addition of butter, salt and pepper to taste then gives a satisfactory outcome; for a very simple meal, add a tin of flaked tuna or shredded corned beef. The pack apparently makes 3 servings, but I regard it as one serving (for me, anyway). Always has a place in my cupboard.

Smashing smash
Gone are the days of school mash - that disgusting taste! It's mashed poratoes almost at its best without all the hassle, but I do wish the manufacturers would think about a large tin of it rather than these silly small satchets. How do you eat yours?I mix up a tablespoon of full fat dried milk, a teaspoon of salt, some black pepper and a small knob of butter, add boiling water, slowly building up as you go to required consistency. Yum!
