Halley's Bible Handbook with the New International Version

I have been looking for this book! But the prices I saw in different places was outrageous, so when I came across it here on Amazon for a reasonable price, I purchased it.I don't care anything about the age of a book, I wanted it for study materials. This is an excellent Bible Handbook. I have started reading it right away. There is a plethora of good, useful information in this book that is not outdated.This book was written by a Pastor back in the 50's, and this one I believe is the last version before the revised version was printed, The revised version has some of the information from the older version removed, and I wanted the information that has been removed from the newer versions.There is no buying books and setting them on shelves to gather dust for me, they're useful or they're gone, given away or donated.I really like the feel of a good printed book, I grew up reading printed books, it took me a long while to get used to an electronic device for reading, but I still like and prefer, the feel of a solid book in my hands.This book arrived in mostly good shape, however the shipping company that the seller used, jammed this book, along with two others in my mailbox. Two large books and this one were shoved into a normal sized ordinary mailbox. It took me a long time to work them out of the mailbox, I honestly don't know how they got them in there, they had to have forced them in there. I almost got to the point of calling my son in law to see if he could muscle them out. But finally after a long struggle one of them came out and then the other two were easy to remove.The book now has a bend crease down the middle of the front cover and the entire book is slightly bowed. Just so you know, if you know how much force it takes to bow a two inch thick hardbound book!That is not the seller's fault. But if they read this review, they may want to question the delivery service about this type of issue. If it's been done to me it's been done to others as well.So to recap; Great book, no stains, rips, tears, or markings, it is in good shape for a book of it's age. The shipping was reasonable, but media mail slow, LOL. Which was ok, because it wasn't a need now thing. Good transaction, the only dim spot in the whole thing was he delivery service, and their abuse of my purchases.

!973 version, a little larger revised edition with a little larger print. arrived in decent condition, binding good. Great for a book this old. thank you so much. I also bought from another vendor the 1964 version, to replace my damaged 1960 version. Has original small print. I am 71, and since the Holy Spirit, miraculously restored my near vision, when i was looking at the 1960 version that brook, wishing i could read it. The Holy Spirit said, i want you to read it, and i will restore your vision so you can read it. So i am keeping the fine print version for myself. Thank you so much

Although the print is a bit small, the content of this book is extremely valuable. You’d need to read the description to get a decent idea,..but I’m so glad I have, and use it often. There are many Bible ‘handbooks’, but this edition was created by one who explains things in detail, and quite well.

Fascinating reading by itself, this book is the best reference source for location, descriptions and more for the Bible. I first read it and used it while in college in the 70s. This hardcover version was purchased some forty years later and is still as fascinating as is was long ago. I highly recommend it for any level student of the Bible and for stand alone reading. Excellent.

The content of this book is great! I just didn't realize when ordering that it is only 6 inches tall. Some of the text is pretty small and I would have rather had a larger, "regular" sized version.

This book will be made freely available to passersby at the Pedestrian Mall in Iowa City, Iowa, a free speech area designated for pedestrian traffic with shops of all kinds, frequented by students, their parents, children and the elderly from all over the world.

I was introduced to this book in Bible College in 1965. What a fantastic and thorough book historically, archeologically and scripturally! It is easy reading and sheds light on Old Testament places that helps you to find them in our modern world maps too. I think this is an excellent source of reference for young Bible students as well as the seasoned students. It is also wonderful, too, that this edition is also available for e-readers. But it is hard to replace an actual in-hand hard copy. Great buy!

I have the 1957 edition and I got this one for my son-in-law who has recently started following Jesus. It is the absolute perfect book to partner with the Bible while studying, to me it is a MUST have!!! I can't say how much it means to me, everyine should have it :)

Great insight to the history of the bible. A bible teacher recommended it to me, and I've found it very helpful. I think it works best for me to read it alone, then reference back to it whilst reading a relevant part. And vice versa. It is like a history book that even touches on what happened between the writings of the Old and New Testaments. If you're curious and eager for background knowledge, this is a great book.

This is an accessible handbook based on the modern version of the Bible, the NIV, and yet thoroughly scholarly. I am delighted with all the summaries / tools / illustrations etc. I can unhesitatingly recommend this for the man or woman, in the street, and the Bible College student.

This book was second hand but you wouldn't know it. Great condition and arrived well within the times given. This is a great book and excellent resource for the serious bible student.
