Bermuda Pond Heater
I love the fact that this just floats in my pond and when there's a chance of the surface freezing, I can just turn the heater on. My pond is planted up with native plants and frogs hibernate on the bottom in winter. They can die from the build up of toxic gases so it's important to have a hole in the ice for that to escape. Also I have hundreds of birds visit my garden for the feed I put out but they need a fresh supply of water for drinking and for bathing. It's important birds can bathe as it keeps their feathers in good condition which protects them from the cold. The pond water is safer for them than tap water in a dish as bacteria quickly builds up if the dish is not regularly cleaned and of course, the water in a dish soon freezes over! It's great to watch a couple of squirrels drinking from the pond too. I feed them separately so the small birds don't have to compete, although the magpies take it in turns to risk rushing in to grab a morsel! I'm sure foxes also drink from the pond at night. Although the field beyond my hedge is flooded most of the winter, it freezes over, denying the foxes a drink. Before I had the Bermuda pond heater I found it very difficult trying to keep up with providing safe water for the wildlife in my garden, but because of it, I think more birds wildlife visits. This is the second Bermuda heater I've owned. The first one stopped working. I found it out of the pond on returning from work and can only suppose a fox dragged it out! I was so pleased with this particular product I decided to replace it with the same make. Even when the pond was so frozen last winter that my adult son could stand on the ice, the Bermuda pond heater kept a good portion clear with absolutely no fuss.

Great little heater - fish love it
My two little shubunkins looked so miserable last week when the weather was so cold I decided to buy this for them - they love it! As soon as it was put in the pond they found it and stay by it when its really cold at night although its only meant to keep an opening in the ice if it freezes I leave it on through the night for them - they seem so much happier and consequently so am I - no longer feel guilty about them being out in the cold! As its only 150W you can run it for over 7 hours for 1 KwH and if you have Economy 7 its pretty cheap to leave on from midnight till 7 in the morning.

Does Not last Long
For £20+ one would expect a product to last a while. I am now about to order my 3rd heater as neither of the first 2 I bought have lasted very long, not even a full winter season. There does not seem to be much choice on the market so here I go again... hey ho another £20 to keep my fish from freezing! I've given it 3 stars as it's brilliant while rt works ;-)

the fish love this product!
Although the pond heater is much smaller than I anticipated, I may have to get another one. I imagine it does the job required, can't tell at the moment as there has been no freezing weather. The trouble with previous pond heaters is that they do not seem to last more than one season so I hope this one holds up a bit longer.

great pond heater
Pond heater is great. Fish seem to be very happy at they hang around it when its on. Melts ice really quickly. Only downside was that it didn't have a plug fitted but I was aware of that from reading the other reviews before I bought it, although I think it should be stated in the description. I would definitely recommend this product. I am very pleased with it and glad that I don't have to go down the garden every day when it's freezing weather with a boiling hot pan of water to melt a hole in the ice of my pond like I did last year!

For a small pond/tank
I use this heater to heat a 140 litre tank outside in winter. On a time switch I can vary amount of heat the fish get, and I keep them at about 5c - never freezes.

Good product.
10 Metre cable was just long enough for me to not need an extension lead. As usual, I only got round to using it after the pond had frozen (the last heater I had was destroyed by rodents nibbling the cable) but I managed to find a small open section near the waterfall and tuned it on. When I checked some two hours later, the heater had melted it's way nicely out over the deep water. It works as described so why pay more? Definitely a must have this year as we forgot to net the pond before the major leaf fall so need to let the gases escape.

Nice Little Heater!
A Pond Heater like this is essential for the health and well-being of fish in outdoor ponds during the winter months when the surface of a pond can ice over and suffocate any fish since gases produced by rotting vegetation cannot escape. It produces enough heat to maintain a clear area around it and, at only 150-Watts, it can be left on for nearly seven hours for only 1 Unit (KWh) of electricity. The power lead itself is a very flexible rubber-covered cable some 5 metres long, and is bare-ended (no power plug). Permanent connection by a qualified electrician using appropriate fault protection devices is recommended in the instruction leaflet.
