Julia Roberts Portrays The Glitz of Hollywood (Hugh Grant shines as the ordinary man)
This is without doubt one of Hugh Grant's greatest triumphs. If ever a role was suited to an actor rather than the actor suiting the role, this is it. He is quite simply magnificent in the modern Cinderella Tale told here. For her part, Julia Roberts plays her role to perfection too. Now believe it or not I'm not overly sentimental and usually give the run-of-the-mill 'Rom Coms' a wide berth, but this transcends at a higher level and is much more than just another 'Rom Com'. It displays a kaleidoscope of emotions from touching, funny and romantic. It would definitely make my top 20 all time great list. If you are one of the doubters (or simply avoid such films) take it from me, this is an exception. Sure, the principle actors play 'themselves', and the outcome is more than predictable, but this is why this film works so well. This is my third copy and I never get tired, whenever the mood takes me, to see it through again and again. If you are one of the few not to have not seen it or own a copy then, what are you waiting for. Get this, for I'm sure you'll find it a delightful addition to your favourite films list.

Decent film, could become successful with some decent publicity.
Tourists still hang around The Travel Bookshop and ask where the "blue door" is (The Curtises still have a house nearby, and the office they wrote the film in is still on Portobello Road)...I was told I was the Rhys Ifans character back in '99, so I vowed never to watch the film. Then I ended up living in Notting Hill, so kinda had to. It's not as good as 'Four Weddings & A Funeral', but tons better than 'Love Actually', which could be the worst film ever made. Enjoy.

Absolutely fantastic!
Having never seen this film before I was dubious about the rave reviews it got from friends and family. I can say with total confidence this is an amazing film! It is now in my top favourite list (which is a small list) and it's just as good as four weddings and a funeral. The writing is brilliant, surprising and not cliché, the ending is brilliant and this film was not I expected. I would thoroughly recommend this.If you found this review useful, please mark it as helpful.

Another great film from the 1990s
decent film, but a bit of a chick flick brought it for my Sister as she wanted it, looked everywhere for this DVD and found it on Amazon and lucky they deliver quick so arrived in time for her Birthday, and she liked it!

A great romantic film
Incredible film. So sensitive to the age in which it was set.Julia Roberts and the rest of the cast of some of England's best do an amazing job.A film star, steps into a book store and the story begins.Meant as a comedy it has romance and loss along with discovery as the key elements of the film. You get the sense of 2 people from 2 very different worlds. One of my favourite bits is when Hugh Grant's character is walking along the street and it goes through the season with the same characters doing different things. It was a wonderful moment in the film and stills fascinates me.The music within is fantastic and adds to the moods. The bluray copy is sharp in both sound and picture considering it is an older film.
