OXO Good Grips Rice & Grains Washing Colander, Grey, 15.4 x 23.3 x 13.9 cm

Hands down, this is one of the best grain/rice washer or strainer I have bought so far. My wife and I love cooking with different types of rice or grains and many on the ones we previously bought disappointed us as they would pass the rice right through and before you realize, third the rice would have gone down the drain while washing it. But this product is really good and is indeed a “Rice” washing product

I've used this for long and short grain rice. It's excellent for either. The quality is very good too.There are generally two complaints in the reviews:1) "It doesn't work well as a colander". No it doesn't and that's completely fine because *this is not a colander*. The holes are too few and too small to work well as a colander, but they are perfect for a rice washer. It also doesn't work well as a chopping board, pencil, or vacuum cleaner - but it's an excellent rice washer.2) "It's too expensive". It's the quality that you'd expect from OXO Good Grips - i.e. excellent. I don't think anyone could fault this for quality and since the price is no secret it's hard to imagine how anyone ordering this could be disappointed when it arrives. If you don't want to pay £10 for a rice washer then buy another one, if you are prepared to spend that much then buy this one because it will last forever and work well.Finally, there are other rice washers on Amazon that are cheaper. Look at the reviews and you probably won't want to buy them. I did, and that's the conclusion I came to. £10 for an effective rice washer that will last me many decades seems like a reasonable deal.I'd say the results I get are marginally better than washing rice in a bowl, but it's a lot faster using this washer. I suspect I probably use a bit less water too.

The media could not be loaded.  It is made of good, sturdy plastic and feels compact.Holes on the side and bottom are good to wash rice and drain quickly.Best rice washer I owned so far in my life. Recommended product.

It strains the rice perfectly

I purchased this sieve purely to wash my quinoa. It does the job perfectly. No loss if any quinoa grains. It is expensive but it works and is of good quality. The only little niggle being a few grains get stuck in the draining holes, so a brush to poke them out is necessary after use. I definitely recommend this sieve for washing quinoa.

Makes rice washing a lot quicker than the sieve method I was using before. I rest this in a slightly bigger bowl that I use to collect water at the bottom of the OXO bowl when I need to swirl the grains with my hands. Then I just hold it free hand over the bowl while I use quite a high pressure from the cold tap to make sure the grains are washed off of all their starch.Would be nice if it had someway to plug the bottom holes so that you didn't have to rest it in another bowl, but it's not a big problem.My only real problem is the price: £10 seems a bit much for a slightly fancy colander. It's quite a nice quality item, but still seems a little steep.

Great product - allows you to prepare rice easily to create perfect tasting rice. 4/5 for rice preparation, I agree with other reviewers that a plug would be nice to allow you to soak the rice without it draining through (I tend to put the drainer into a bowl to let the water pool). Can be a little fiddly to get rice out of the drainer into the pan as well, but this is an issue with most tools you use. When draining cooked rice, 5/5, so much better than a colander or sieve, very easy to clean afterwards.
