ManfrottoMicro Ball Head with Hot Shoe Mount

I bought this Manfrotto 494RC2 to use with a Sony a6000 series camera (a6300). I also considered other Manfrotto ball heads (e.g. the Micro Ball Head without the plate) but in the end chose this one because I'm less likely to drop or scratch the camera with the quick release plate. Previously I had a compact camera and a Cullmann Micro Ball Head CB2 series (model CB2.7).Build Quality-----------------Build quality is very good, I can't see that anything will pop off or crack or break. Both knobs seem to be a hard thermoset or composite plastic with perhaps fibre-reinforced. They seem very tough. One knob adjusts/locks the ball (and rotation; it will need to be tightened to unscrew the ball head from the tripod), and the other adjusts the friction to help support heavy camera/lenses when the ball is loosened with the first knob. The friction setting can be set to very loose so that it feels there is virtually no friction, to so tight that the head won't move (obviously don't misuse the friction knob, use the first knob to fully lock the ball).All important bits of the 494RC2 are metal, possibly aluminium or some alloy, I can't say. Torx screws hold bits together, not cheap pop rivets. There is a brass-coloured safety lever to prevent accidental opening of the release plate. In use, it can be opened by one hand, by putting your thumb on the safety lever and the release lever, and pushing against the safety lever by angling the thumb. Basically it is straightforward. And no risk of accidentally opening it. The safety lever has a rubber cap on it, but (this is just speculation) it does look like that may come off with wear-and-tear. It wouldn't be a big deal if it did come off, it would still be comfortably usable or place a heatshrink cap on it.Using the Mini Ball Head---------------------------------This mini ball head has a 3/8" fitting for tripods. However, I don't use a tripod (apart from a small desk one), and I use a Cullmann clamp (see photos). My clamp and desktop tripod has a smaller 1/4" fitting. So, some adapter is needed. The one that is intended to directly fit is Manfrotto MN-088LBP. It isn't cheap, but less risk of it breaking compared to no-name ones I feel. The MN-088LBP fits perfectly (see one of the photos).The release plate fits the camera with no scratches since there is a soft yet firm and textured rubberized underside. The camera then fits the ball head by putting it into place at an angle and then straightening the camera. The release lever snaps into place itself but I still gently push against the lever afterwards to get extra confirmation. It of course is rock-solid otherwise it wouldn't be doing its job.Size Comparisons-------------------------I loved the little Cullmann CB2 series ball head (CB2.7). I used it all the time with my compact camera. It was so small I could put it in a pocket or bag, and it was lightweight too (85g). The Manfrotto 494RC2 weighs 290g (without the quick release plate because that would be screwed to the camera). So it is more than three times the weight, and takes up at least three to four times as much volume at an estimate. So I'm unhappy about the size, but this is the drawback to having a heavier camera. My Sony plus lenses is far heavier than a point-and-shoot, and the Cullmann one is not designed to handle that much weight. Furthermore it is easy to have the Cullmann one not tightened enough by accident. So, I intend to stick with the 494RC2.Summary--------------If you want a release plate and the ability to support mid-sized cameras upwards, then this mini ball head is a good choice. It is well-built and to get most use of it don't forget to purchase the 1/4" to 3/8" adapter if you have 1/4" clamps or mini tripods.

It's been seven years since I joined the DSLR film-making revolution. In that time I must have bought at least five different micro ball-heads with hot-shoe mounts for various camera rigs. I always bought cheap and cheerful ball-heads, and always found them slightly dodgy. For one, either my fingers are too big, but I can never properly tighten the ring which tightens it to the hot-shoe. They always start slipping out or wobbling. Secondly, the thumb screws which should tighten the angle of the head down properly, have always given my grief. Either they're too small to get proper torque, or they start stripping internally.Recently I bought the Blackmagic Video Assist 4K to connect to my Panasonic GH4. When I took it out of its box, I knew I was going to need a PROPER ball-head hotshot mount. This baby is chunky and the last thing I want is for it to fall to the ground.I asked myself - what do Blackmagic themselves use to attach the Video Assist? Luckily, on their product page there was a photo of a micro ball-head they use. If you zoom in you can see what brand it is…Enter the Manfrotto 429LCD… I have to admit I did a double take when I saw the price. For that price you can easily buy 10 cheap and cheerful micro ball-heads, but boy oh boy - you get what you pay for.It is built like the proverbial brick outhouse. This thing is machined for eternity and whatever you use it with, will stay on the camera like it was welded on. Just look at the lovely large, metal screw ring which tightens the hot-shoe fitting. Its rough edges allow you to properly grip and tighten - or loosen - it with ease and power. To angle and tighten the head using the side lever is a total pleasure. You tighten it once and it stays put.I cannot praise the Manfrotto 492LCD enough. It is a totally essential piece of kit for anyone who is serious about attaching anything slightly heavier to their camera - whether it be a Zoom audio recorder or an external monitor / recorder.

Excellent companion for my monopod for shooting wildlife, from an open top safari van. It was good enough to support a total load of 3.5 Kgs (my full frame DSLR + 150-600mm superzoom lens) all the time. The quick release plate is really quick for both mounting as well as taking the camera off the monopod. It was a bit tight to release during the first 1-2 days, but became fine, easy to operate after that. There are less adjustments required on a monopod than a tripod because you can always tilt and pan a monopod without needing to adjust the ball head, so I believe a lighter duty head like this is sufficient. For a heavy camera and heavy duty use, I would recommend a heavier head.I already have another bigger Manfrotto tripod head for my tripod and since I have used Manfrotto,I can't think of going for another brand.

We needed a ball head to mount a field monitor on top of our camera hotshoe for when we are filming at weddings.I was a bit sceptical of paying this much for a ball head but our cheap one was simply too precarious and I was scared at some point it would cause the whole monitor to fall off and that's expensive!I'm glad to say though that this Manfrotto Micro ball head is extremely well built. There's no doubt it will stand the test of time and it all locks solidly into place.It's definitely a case of you get what you pay for. I've no hesitations in recommending this for professional use.

Hallo ihr Lieben.Verwendungszweck:Der Kugelkopf wird für einen Microfongalgen verwendet und hält ein Microfon mit Spinne und Popschutz. Ohne Kugelkopf kann man zwar auch alles einstellen aber das ist Umständlicher und ist mit mehr Arbeit verbunden.Ein Vergleich: Billiger Kugelkopf (bis 2,5kg) vs. Manfrotto 492 Kugelkopf bis 2 Kg. Habe beides Zuhause.Zuerst der billige Kugelkopf ca.10 Euro.Er ist um ca. die Hälfe kleiner als der Manfrotto. Er hat einen Plastik Drehteller und einen ganz zarten kleinen Drehflügel zum fixieren. Die Kugel hat am Anfag als er noch neu war, gut gehalten. Jetzt verstellt sich die Kugel wenn man das Teil bewegt, oder damit Schwenkbewegungen macht. Auch merkt man das, das schwere Microfon durch Schallübertragung langsam zu wanderen beginnt. Das ständige Nachstellen auf Veranstaltungen nervt gewaltig.Ausserdem ist der Drehteller glatt und wenn man ihn aufdrehen will, dann rutsch man drauf herrum. Die Gewinde sind in Ordnung. Beide Seiten haben ein 1/4 zoll Gewinde, (sowohl der Stift als auch das Gewindeloch). Alles ist aus Aluminium ausser der Drehteller und der Drehflügel. Die Auflage auf dem Drehteller ist eher dünn (unter 1mm). Die Auflage wurde zudem aufgeklebt und hat schon nach kurzer Zeit begonnen sich aufzulösen.Und jetzt zum Manfrotto:Als erstes fällt die qualitativ gute Verarbeitung und das Gewicht auf. Im Vergleich mit dem Billigteil ist er schwerer. Im Zubehör befindet sich ein Adapter für grössere Gewindelöcher. Der Feststellhebel hat Rillen die es ermöglichen rutschfrei den Hebel zu verstellen. Zudem lässt sich der Hebel ,falls er mal auf ein Hindernis stoßen sollte , herrausziehen und in eine andere Position bringen. Ein fixieren ist somit immer möglich. Das Drehrad hat auch keine Rillen, ist aber aus einem Material, womit man das Drehrad ohne zu rutschen feststellen kann. Zudem hat der Drehteller eine 3mm dicke Auflage die man, wenn sie kaputt geht, auch Tauschen kann. Die Auflage ist nicht festgeklebt. Der Drehteller ist auch grösser als beim Billigteil und lässt sich wenn man grössere Hände hat besser anfassen und drehen. Oben befindet sich ein 1/4 Zoll Stift und Unten ein 3/8 Zoll Loch welches man mit dem Adapter auf ein 1/4 Zoll verkleinern kann.Test:Ich hab versucht die festgestellte Kugel mit angehängten Microfon mit sanfter Gewalt zu verstellen.Der Kugelkopf hält perfekt das Microfon in Position. Sehr Stabil. Top Produkt. Jetzt startet der Langzeittest. Sollte sich noch was ändern schreib ich das hier hin. Bis jetzt bin ich begeistert.Dieser Manfrotto 492 geht bis 2 Kg und sein grossere Bruder 494 schaft noch 2 kg mehr, also 4kg.So und jetzt entscheidet selbst. Lo encontré en el outlet, ya estaba abierto, y presenta daño en el canal del tornillo. No lo devolví porque funciona bien, y las irregularidades en el canal las pude limar dejando condiciones aceptables de uso. Sin embargo yo creo que debía de tener mayor descuento, porque no solo no era nuevo, estaba también maltratado. Cómo dije, me lo quedé y sostiene muy bien luces para video.

Es Manfrotto...Antes de comprar este cabezal, estaba dudando de gastar menos y comprar otros similares.Pero agregando unos pesos más me decidí por este, y la verdad que no falla en nada.Es y se siente muy fuerte, de materiales de alta calidad y precisión.El movimiento y fijación de la cámara (de 2.6kg aprox con lente) es perfecto y fácil de fijar en el ángulo que necesito.Lo utilizo junto a un C-Clamp Grip de Pedco (https://www.amazon.com.mx/Asamblea-UltraClamp-accesorio-cámaras-prismáticos/dp/B000ABB4HC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1496176856&sr=8-2&keywords=pedco) y me alivia tener que desenroscar y enroscar la cámara en cada situación.Lo recomiendo, esta marca tiene años de fabricar estos accesorios y no falla!

Es una rotula espectacular. Para mi la rotula de bola perfecta. Tenemos varios y los utilizamos en las cámaras con fotos led. Agarran increíblemente bien. Nunca se sueltan de la cámara porque tienen una aro que agarra muy muy bien, es ancho y se aprieta con fuerza a la cámara y no se suelta. La rotula es firme y muyyy fuerte para su tamaño. Sin duda de paga, pero se nota que es un producto Manfrotto con una calidad inmejorable.

Helmkamera ROAM, schwarz, 1609 ", Link: http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B005MIZ046/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i01) am Lenker meiner Enduro zu befestigen. Dabei hat sich der große Neigungsbereich und die sehr feste Klemmung bei leichter Bedienbarkeit auch mit Handschuhen bestens bewährt. Für diesen Zweck eine klare Kaufempfehlung (gilt auch für die beiden anderen Artikel). Das ganze Ensemble ist zwar nicht mehr besonders leicht, aber sehr stabil und lockert sich auch bei längeren Fahrten nicht.

This is a great product. I needed a ball head with quick release. This worked perfectly for me and I love the product. I did have one issue manfrotto uses a different screw size than silk tripods (which is what I have so I had to get an 1/4 inch to 3/8 inch adapter. Luckily it too was available on amazon.in (Generic 1/4" to 3/8" Convert Screw Adapter for Tripod Monopod https://www.amazon.in/dp/B011ECTGZW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_AAUT7poOcgxXS).Overall will definitely recommend this product.

Ich habe mir diesen Kugelkopf als Zusatz zu meinem Cullmann Nanomax 260 Stativ gekauft, denn die Bedienung ist hier immer etwas schneller als mit den üblichen 3-Wege-Köpfen.Der Kugelkopf wird ohne Adapterring geliefert, daher wird ein solcher zur Befestigung auf Stativen mit 1/4" Schraube benötigt. Der Adapterring ist in jedem Fotoladen für ein paar Euro zu bekommen und hat ein 3/8" Außengewinde, passend zum Manfrotto Kugelkopf.Der Kugelkopf ist für den Preis wirklich ausgezeichnet, die Verarbeitung zeugt von sehr guter Qualität und das Design ist perfekt. Besonders gefallen hat mir die Möglichkeit, eine montierte Kamera beidseitig schräg zu kippen, da die Kugel nur von zwei seitlichen Wannen gehalten wird. Der große Hebel ist für das grobe Verriegeln des Kugelgelenkes sowie der unteren Panorama-Scheibe, auf der der Kopf aufsitzt. Die Rändelschraube auf der gegenüberliegenden Seite erlaubt feine Justierungen und steuert so den Widerstand der eingeklemmten Kugel.Alles in allem ein wunderbarer Kugelkopf von Manfrotto, kann ich jedem als ein wichtiges und praktisches Zubehör zu vorhandenen Stativen empfehlen. Bei mir ist er auch mit einer Nano Clamp im Einsatz.

Ich nutze diesen Kugelkopf, um meinen Lilliput-Monitor auf dem Blitzschuh meiner 5D-Mark II zu befestigen, und diese Aufgabe erfüllt er mit Bravur - ganz im Gegensatz zum mitgelieferten Exemplar. Er sitzt, einmal festgeschraubt, bombenfest, der Bildschirm lässt sich wiederum mit der Feststellschraube recht fix drehen, kippen und verstellen.Auf Manfrotto ist eben verlass!

Vorneweg: Ich nutze den Kugelkopf zusammen mit der Manfrotto 035 Superklamp und der Manfrotto Adapterplatte 208 Hex auf 3/8 Zoll.Ich habe den Kugelkopf gekauft, da er eine Schnellwechselplatte und eine Friktionskontrolle hat. Bisher habe ich die Kugelköpfe CB6 und CB5 von Cullman verwendet, die an meinen Nanomaxstativen verbaut sind.Gegenüber diesen ist der Manfrotto 494RC2 Kugelkopf mit Schnellwechselplatte eine Klasse für sich. Sollte er auch sein, da er deutlich teuer ist.Durch die Friktionskontrolle lässt sich die Schwer-/Leichtgängigkeit gut einstellen. Bei mir rutscht mir die Kamera nicht einfach weg.Die Schnellwechselplatte ist stabil und lässt sich, wie in anderen Rezensionen schon beschrieben, mit einer Hand bedienen. Die zusätziche Sicherung verhindert, dass man die Arretierung einfach oder aus Versehen lösen, beim Einschnappen sitzt die Platte fest, es wackelt nichts.Auch ist die Platte so klein, dass bei meiner Canon 500d das Batteriefach geöffnet werden kann.Das halte ich für einen sehr großen Vorteil: Bei Batteriewechsel muss die Platte nicht abgeschraubt werden!Das Absinken der Kamera ist sehr gering, mit etwas Übung geht das in Fleisch und Blut über: Bildausschnitt etwas höher wählen, festschrauben, Kamera loslassen und der Bildausschnitt stimmt.Was mich zu dem Punkt Abzug bewegt hat:Da ich den Kugelkopf mit der Adapterplatte am Klemmstativ nutze, war es mir wichtig, dass die Klemmschraube nicht die Beweglichkeit einschränkt.Anfangs war es auch so. Der Kugelkopf war bei Stellung 1/4 nach 12 fest. Eine halbe Drehung hat von lose bis fest gereicht. Nach einigem Nutzen stellt sich die gewünschte Festigkeit erst bei 1/2 1 ein, so dass der Feststellhebel mit der Wechselplatte in Berührung kommt und die nötige Flexiblität fehlt. Daher muss ich vorher genau die Positionierung und Ausrichtung festlegen, da ich nicht mehr in alle Richtigen so flexibel bin.Doch das ist "Meckern auf hohem Niveau".Bei anderen Stativen ist das nicht weiter von Bedeutung, daher kann ich den Kugelkopf empfehlen und bereue den Kauf nicht.

la testa è di ottima fattura come tutti i prodotti manfrotto e perfetta per l'utilizzo per cui l'ho acquistata (gorillapod).facendo dei test ho notato che in posizione verticale tende a 'mollare' un po', ma montavo 5D markIII e 70-200 f/4 e forse è chiedere troppo...per gli interessati all'acquisto valutate il fatto che questa testa non ha una piastra sganciabile quindi, di fatto, si avvita la macchina fotografica alla testa.

Me ha defraudado esta rótula , la adquiri para sustituir la que viene de serie en el trípode BeFree de carbono porque no incluía giro para panorámicas y esta si incluye esta opción, sin embargo el boton que tendría que controlar el movimiento de giro no actúa así sino que es para controlar la presión de la bola en combinación con la manija principal y aunque si dispone del giro de 360 grados no es independiente del movimiento de la bola como en otras rótulas, me parece un fallo enorme de Manfrotto este hecho ya que los dos botones de que dispone tendrían que actuar independientemente y que el giro se pudiera hacer con la bola fija cosa que no es posible.

ich nutze den kugelkopf in verbindung mit dem "Manfrotto Nano Clamp 386BC" und dem "GoPro Kamera Tripod Mount".die perfekte kombi um die gopro kamera fast überall fest, sicher und einfach am fahrrad montieren zu können.das ganze hält bombenfest und sorgt dafür, dass das bild nicht verwackelt ist. selbst kopfsteinpflaster oder geländefahrten macht der kugelkopf anstandslos mit, ohne nur einen mm zu verutschen. durch den kugelkopf kann die kamera perfekt, einfach und schnell ausgerichtet werden. trotz des hohen preises, kann ich diese kombi sehr empfehlen, besser gehts wirklich nicht, top verarbeitung!

La mejor rotula que hemos conocido. Sin duda tiene una calidad excepcional. Recominedo que la compreis. Es un comodin. Tiene una resistencia buenisima, una pestaña giratoria ajustable, Un acabado metalico muy resistente. Una rueda lateral para ajustar la presión. La rotula perfecta.

Der Kopf ist eher "niedlich", leicht und schlank.Für mein Einbeinstativ aber die optimale Lösung.Ich laufe viel mit Einbein herum und "knipse" so alles in der Gegend, auch gern mit 300mm Objektiv.Um auch mal Höherliegendes ( Feuerwerk ) zu fotografieren habe ich mir diese Kopf geholt.Und dafür ist er genau richtig.+ leicht einzustellen+ geringes Gewichto nix Besonderes, aber funktional
