Lots of pseudoscience, misspelling, and marketing puffery in this description
When you read these descriptions, it’s hard to tell how many of the inane claims are the result of a lack of understanding and how many are just bad Google Translate results. Where it claims to use a “honeycomb activated Carbon filter” to remove (well, actually they wrote “adsorbs”) “odors, vapors, and gasses from things like smoke, cooking, and chemicals” my first question was what does it mean to be honeycomb activated? Does it have a balanced breakfast featuring Post honeycomb cereal each morning? But can it absorb “odors, vapors, and gasses from things like smoke, cooking, and chemicals”? Yes and no. Odors, smoke, and some chemicals are particulate matter that can be carried within a gas. Vapors are gasses and no filter can remove them unless it converts them back to liquids or solids. Cooking is a verb - but let's just pretend they meant the odors created during cooking. But there’s some real pseudoscience elsewhere in this description. They claim to “remove 99.97% of dust, pollen, mold, bacteria, viruses, and any airborne particles in the room with a minimum particle penetration size of 100 nanometers.” OK, so it removes 99.97% (or if you scroll down, 99.999% - but who’s counting?) of particles 100nm or bigger. At that level, it will remove most allergens and bacteria, some smoke, soot, and suspended atmospheric dust, and no viruses or gaseous contaminants. And despite the claim that its “highly efficient, custom Japanese motor, completely replaces the air”, it does not and cannot replace the air in any room regardless of the origin of its motor. But it might filter the existing air. It does not “decompoes” [sic] formaldehyde, benzene, ammonia, or second-hand smoke but it might filter them.If their claimed cleaning rate is 300cfm (cubic feet per minute), in 30 minutes it can only clear the air of a 2500ft2 room if the ceilings are only 3.6 feet from the ground and the air of a 1250ft2 room if the ceilings are only 7.2 feet from the ground. If you have 9’ ceilings as many of us do, it can clean the air of a 1000ft2 room in 30 minutes. That’s not bad - but it’s a far cry from their claim. It’s very quiet but their listing disagrees with itself. In one place it claims 18db, in another it's 24db. That may not seem a big difference until you remember that decibels (db) are measured on a logarithmic scale - that makes 24db twice as loud as 18db. 55db (the high-end value) is 71 times as loud as 18db!Finally, recognize its internal conflict. It's a filter system but it’s also a humidifier. That means that there's a reasonable chance that it will end up having to filter the very mold and fungus it creates. Good luck with that!
