Just the job for home use emergency lighting.
Decided to buy this as an emergency back-up should we have a power failure etc now that we have a daughter.Tested it on the night it arrived and I can confidently say that is gives off a good and powerful amount of light (on full beam).Even on the the dimmer light setting (will help to conserve batteries) you could easily get by, unless your wanting a huge amount of light. Not particularly keen on the on the 3rd mode which is I guess best for reading and such, whilst it will further conserve your batteries, it doesn't emit enough 'useful' light for most situations. The lamp itself is well made and looks/feels as though it could take a bashing and remain unscathed.I also like the fact that 2 types of batteries can be used in this, both D & AA (3 of either), I have popped in 3 AA's as I had a plethora & as I don't own anything else that use the D type batteries so see no point in stocking up on that type.Cant comment as yet on battery usage as not used it enough (and hopefully not likely too). But it does give me confidence should a 'black-out' occur.I also added 3 head touches to my emergency kit (family of 3), and now feel I have adequart lighting in an emergency (plus a hoard of batteries of course). Its cheap enough, seems well made and gives of plenty of light when needed, so my advice would be to buy it!!Delivery was excellent and well packaged.

Good for a battery lantern but wrong switch
It is quite a good design battery lantern, even better as it looks rainproof. Even better is you could choose to use C size or AA size batteries. I put rechargable AA in mine as most of my battery equipment I choose AA unless only AAA is available. Still I only need one small charger when travelling as it takes AAA. The lantern comes with adaptor to hold AA batters of which 3 are needed. It is not being given full stars because the designer decided to have the swich thus - Off, Full On, Dim, Night Light. It should have been Off, Night Light, DIm, Full On. Imagine you are sharing a tent, which design of switch you would prefer if you have just woken up, want to use the lantern but not want to wake anyone else ? Yes, you want a dim light before a bright light surely.

Just what i needed
This is just the sort of lantern i was looking for. It is well made, well designed, has good features with great battery life.I wasn't interested in rechargeable lanterns with remote control, i just wanted something ideal for the job. The light has three settings: High, this will light a reasonably large tent with reading light. Low, this is more than enough light for getting ready for bed, or sitting up chatting, Candle: This is energy saving single yellow LED, this will last for hours and hours, it acts as a night light- a great feature, These modes are selected by cycling through the control button, which is made of glow in the dark rubber. The LEDS will last for years. The lantern is well made from plastic and rubber, designed to be weather proof and apparently floats (I haven't tested this!). It has both a moving handle and a hook to allow it to be attached to the roof of a tent. It can take D cell batteries (for longer life) or AA's by using the supplied adapter. AA's are usually cheaper to buy and easier to find out and about. It's is also ideal for power cuts or use in the garden.

Looks and feels solid and reliable, with a very bright light
A nice solid feeling lantern torch for emergency use at home, and to illuminate dark corners in such as the loft. I can imagine it will do very well for campers too. Solidly built, with easy controls, and, using the brightest setting, gives a lot of all-round illumination. So far so good, it looks to be a worthwhile and good value purchase.

Button hard to operate
This lantern has been designed to last for a long time (whether it actually does I don't know), at the expense of usability. The switch is quite stiff to operate. I bought it for an elderly relative, who could not manage to press the button hard enough to turn the light on; the same person has no difficulty with most other buttons. It's also bulkier and heavier than I expected from the photo.Maybe this would be good for a family camping trip, but it's a bit overkill for use in domestic powercuts.

Would be better to have a separate night light switch
Robust lamp. It is green not red. Not fully used in situ yet. To turn the night light on, which is very gentle, you have to go through the the other two settings. Would be better to have a separate night light switch. Should do the trick, but not sure if bright enough to read by when hanging. On the bottom there is a little folding hook which feels strong enough.

A pity to have to downrate what is actually a good item, but when ordering online the description and ...
Lantern would rate five stars, but the model supplied is not the one illustrated. The model supplied has no keychain light fitting into the top. Clear example of misdescription which has already been pointed out by another reviewer but not acted on. A pity to have to downrate what is actually a good item, but when ordering online the description and specification are crucial.
