Easy to hold nutmeg grinder
I had some difficulty opening the grinder on my first attempt. Once I had a nutmeg inside it, I turned the crank and voila nutmeg for my spinach. I had been using a small hand grater, and found I was usually grating my fingernails while trying to hold the nutmeg. This is much better for me. I will keep it right next to my cooking peppermill to use for omelets, spinach dishes, rice pudding...

Convenient, but I'm still on the fence about it
I am not a big fan of kitchen gadgets. Single-purpose devices are a rarity in my kitchen, so this was kind of a leap for me. Still, I figured I needed a place to store whole nutmeg anyway, so maybe keeping it in a grinder isn't so bad. This was cheap enough it wasn't much of a risk.I like the convenience of it. I've usually had whole nutmeg and some ground around. I'm often in enough of a hurry I'd rather shake some out of the container than go get out a grater which I then have to wash. With this, I get to have it freshly ground and it's convenient.I see two downsides:1) Grinding a lot of nutmeg seems to be slow. This is good for a light seasoning, but you have to grind awhile if you're making a big recipe that calls for a tsp or more.2) This doesn't appear to measure out the same as nutmeg from the store. It looks to me like it makes fine shavings. Packaged nutmeg seems to be much more coarse - almost granulated. It appears that 1 tsp of nutmeg from this will contain much less nutmeg than 1 tsp from a spice jar. Just my impression. I haven't weighed it to check. This will have more flavor per gram, so maybe it all balances out. I haven't been able to tell for sure yet.All in all, I find it worth the price, but I'm not bowled over with its awesomeness.

Perfect little gadget
I'm in love with this. I like practical tools in the kitchen and this is one of them if you only need it for light domestic use - certainly not the piece for a professional kitchen. Nutmegs are my special seasoning, so it is used everyday in a couple of dishes, can it be eggs, mashed potatoes, porridge, my morning latte, or anything else I feel like. One whole nutmeg goes a long way (once one side goes flat, you just need to turn it), the grinder is easy to load/unload as it is very easy to open (I don't know what the other reviewer was complaining about). It is a hygienic piece as you won't be handling nutmegs with your hands all the time, and it is always ready to use in no wasting time. Also, for the price, it is a steal. I'm glad I haven't spent a fortune buying the Peugot I was planning before.Extra nutmegs can be kept in their own container at the back of the kitchen cabinet, I don't need a grinder to be used as storage.

Light Duty Grinder
I needed a "reasonably priced" nutmeg grinder for my spice drawer and after doing a quick survey here on Amazon, I chose this one.It can grind one whole nutmeg nut at a time. Removing the top is a bit problematic until you get the hang of how it's attached. Once you figure it out, removing and replacing the top is not a big issue. Instructions are printed on a very small booklet attached to the grinder but I didn't find them very helpful. When grinding, it creates a medium small grind which is fine for my use. One minor note, I had hoped that I could store extra nutmeg in the upper portion of the grinder however no such luck - there's not enough room. The grinder is by no means, industrial strength or designed for everyday use but, if you need a light duty grinder for occasional fresh nutmeg - check this one out. It works and is reasonably priced.

Fine nutmeg grater
This is the second nutmeg grater I have owned--the first having disappeared somewhere between NJ and MI. I loved the first one; wood outside, easy to insert the nut and easy turning. This one is lucite, which I prefer to avoid, but it is the closest to my previous grater. I had some difficulty removing the bottom to put in the nut but once I did that, the grater worked just fine. Great service from Amazon, as usual.

Works Well but Plastic is Fragile
I ordered this as a replacement grinder for the one that broke when I dropped it. This one is similar to what I had, which means that it works just fine as a grinder. The biggest problem is that the plastic is very breakable. The first two I received from Amazon were both broken in shipment. The third one arrived intact. Just have to be careful not to drop it.

Good grinder
I like grinding fresh nutmeg for several things. This grinder is great when grinding a bit over whipped cream or egg nog. Only drawback is when you get to the last sliver of the nutmeg nut I have to dig out the micro grater to make use of the last bit. It would be nice if someone would invent a grinder that would handle these slivers as well.

Save you fingers!
Save your fingers! Get this to use this instead of a grater. It also uses about all of the nutmeg - greatly reduces waste. Only con is that it is not adjustable. You get the same size grounds no matter what. The directions don't say it, but be sure to insert only one nutmeg at a time.

Just good for the price
This is a plain nutmeg grinder but it works well. The only con is that this device looks fragile and I am afraid that it would not last very long. Only time will tell!

so very sad
Don't know what it's supposed to grind but it's not whole nutmegs. Way to weak and spindly for something called a nutmeg grinder. I'll try it on smaller whole spices if I ever buy any. For now, I'll be using my REAL classic nutmeg GRATER for my eggnog! Should have read the .com reviews which were much more accurate and unforgiving. I guess we Canucks really are too polite
