works my D5500 too...with a caveat!
I am a full frame shooter and recently bought a d5500 for its small size. When using the d5500 I immediately noticed the difference in size of the viewfinder between it and the d810 that I am used to. I thought this magnifying viewfinder might do the trick. I bought this as a longshot because I could not find any information on if it fit the d5500 or not. It does fit the d5500 however, the top of the lcd frame slightly rubs against the bottom of the dk21m when flipping it in and out. It does not seem to be a big deal or feel like it is going to damage the lcd or camera by having this viewfinder attached though. I can understand why Nikon does not indicate the DK21m as being compatible with the d5500 because of this. The DK21m definitely helps a lot and now, when looking through the viewfinder, its a lot less like the "looking through a dark hallway" feel of the standard d5500 eyepiece. I have been using a 24mm 2.8d lens on the d5500 for a 35mm field of view. The afd lenses do not auto focus on the d5500 because the d5500 does not have an auto focus motor built into the camera body. The magnification of the DK21M helps out a lot with manual focusing because the viewfinder image is magnified. Also, I do not have a problem seeing the viewfinder information when shooting or feel as if I have to scan around the viewfinder with my eyes to see everything in the composition.

Broken clips and hard to see edges but...
Clips broke on first mount. Fully broke off when removed to see how bad the damage was. Good thing is you can tell but my OCD knows. Make sure when applying, to go straight down on mount. Also you will not see your edges too well. So keep that in mind. Not impossible to see them but you have to move around the eye piece to see them.I still enjoy this. Donβt let this hinder your own test and review.

It is a great upgrade.
I bought the Nikon DK-21M magnifying eyepiece for my D750. It was very easy to install, and so far, it seems to be fitting better than the basic eyepiece cover. As for performance, it works really well. It is nice to look into the viewfinder and have all of the information at the bottom of the screen be a little bit bigger and easier to read, not to mention being able to see your subject a little better. I would recommend this magnifier to everyone that wants a closer look at the subject before you release the shutter as well as seeing your camera settings a little better. I am over 60 years old, and it really makes it easier for me to get the right shot. FYI, the diopter works just fine with this magnifier.

It also fits and works on the D5100
I got this for my D5100, which has a rather small viewfinder. It slides right on where the factory eyepiece slides off, like it should; no modifications, no problems. It does not interfere with the flip-out monitor or the diopter dial (or anything else). Though the magnification was not dramatic, it was significant enough to make it well worth the few dollars I spent on it. It also stands out about 1/4 inch further than the factory eyepiece, which gets my face off the monitor a little better. And in contrast to other reviews I have read online, it does not take away from the area of view in the veiwfinder; at least not for me, on my D5100. But I do have to put my eye right up to it to see the whole area, so if you have to wear glasses to see through your viewfinder, this is probably not for you. But I can see the full rectangle, a little bit larger, and a little bit easier; it definately makes manual focussing on distant subjects easier for me. It is a welcome upgrade to my D5100, and I doubt I will ever take it off.

works on canon rebel xt also...
This magnifier works on the Canon Rebel XT and in my opinion is probably the best usable magnification you can get in this category of devices (I originally thought of getting a straight 2.3x viewfinder magnifier, but after several posts of unusably dark view, I ditched the idea). It fits the Rebel XT pretty snugly. The magnification is perceptible but not earth shattering. The viewfinder image didn't suffer a noticable loss of light. With Rebel X*'s small viewfinder, every bit of magnification might be worth it. But it won't be enough for a precise manual focus.Without glasses on, you can exactly see both the frame and the info bar below it. With glasses on, you can just about see the entire frame, but if you peer to see the info bar, you lose some portion of the top of the frame (image center is still there). This also brings the eye piece a bit forward, so your nose isn't entire squished against the LCD.Nikon users may fume at a review of a part meant for Nikon cameras used on a Canon body, but I felt the review could be useful for Canon users considering this part. Nikon has made a good part with no Canon equivalent, but very much usable on a Canon body.

This product itself works fine as expected from the product overview. This produces the larger figure in the view finer and that made me feel like I am taking pics with D600 while using D7000 (i.e. My DX format D7000 pretends as if it is FX format D600. Of course it is not the same though. :) ). Simply I like it. However, the user should bear in mind that the range that is seen in the view finder is bigger than the one actually shows up on the picture. So you get smaller result than you saw in the view finder. This gives me some struggle on framing. Another point that I wanted to be improved was that this eyepiece only has a thin small square shaped rubber, and this rubber is not replaceable. It would be great if this could be changed to other bigger eye cup. The original eye piece fits and looks better on my D7000. Also it is not confortable to use when rotating the camera to take the pics vertically.

Good when you don't wear eye glasses
Its good, see the whole viewfinder with the bottom information if you don't wear eye glasses. When I was wearing eye glasses, I need to press my eye close to see everything but when I am wearing contact, its fine. The magnification isn't that great, it slightly make me feel easier on my eye but not a lot. If you have the cash, get it, but you didn't miss much if you don't have it. It doesn't make the viewfinder seeing less 20% which doesn't make sense unless you wear big thick eye glasses. If anyone doesn't know yet, your Nikon viewfinder usually only shows about 95% of the actual scene unless you using the pro level D2X, then its nearly 100%.

A Transformation
For me this eyepiece has transformed the experience of using a DX camera. Gone is the dark tunnel of a viewfinder and a large, bright screen has taken its place. I have started to use my D300 again and have ordered a D7100, knowing that the viewing experience is now satisfactory. The information at the bottom of the screen is still visible. It requires a slight adjustment of eye position to see it clearly, but it is workable. The only downside is that the eyepiece is not usable while wearing glasses, so it would be a serious problem if I wore glasses permanently.Worth the money.

Works well
Fitted this to my D750, not experienced any of the issues mentioned by some other reviewers so presumably must be down to individual eyesight differences. Works well for me and definitely makes focussing easier than the normal eyepiece. Guess each person will have to assess if it's suitable for them or not by trying it.

excellent if you want just a little clearer and larger viewfinder
works well - provides a "normal" viewfinder experience just larger. As someone who needs to see clearer without wanting to carry around magnifying scope its excellent - I had one on my D80, bought this for my D7100would I buy again - definately

trading magnification for quality
it definitely does what its supposed to do but I find it makes the image slightly blurry and even adjusting the diopter makes no odds. The blur is slight but it could make all the difference in knowing you have focus or not when using wide apertures
