Keaton and Gleeson are something special in this.
A good movie that is warm without being sentimental. The relationship between Diane Keaton and Brendan Gleeson is real and raw and not the usual sanitized relationship often portrayed in movies about people over 50. The film is clearly aimed at an older audience but in fact the aspects explored of loss, love, fear of commitment and fragile emotions with doubts and identity issues will be familiar to all ages.Diane Keaton can be a bit too polished at times but here see gives a more exposed and natural performance reminiscent of Annie Hall. The casting of Keaton and Gleeson is pure genius and the strongest part of the film. The film is worth seeing for their performance. The script could have been improved and some of the comedy was cliche and mistimed but this does not distract from an otherwise highly enjoyable movie.

Sweet, Funny Movie
The real life story wasn't quite as sparkly and didn't have such a happy, well-rounded ending, but it's nice to know the community will rally round when the eternally greedy want to shove the little men around. A really nice film for a rainy Sunday afternoon. I wanted to see more of that beautiful cottage on the river. I suppose you wouldn't get much change out of a million for that ...

Feel good film. Brendon Gleeson steals the show.
Charming love story of two older people who have suffered loss and are coming to terms with it in different waysBoth are in danger of losing their very different homes..Their paths cross and they fall in loveI love Daine Keaton and I could listen to Brendan Gleeson all day. He is a great actor, one of my favourites and he always brings great authenticity to any role he takes on and steals the show hereThis is easy, feel good viewing.

engaging true story that is beautifully acted. It's very simple
Gentle, engaging true story that is beautifully acted. It's very simple, perhaps the script lacks the magic that would make it a British movie modern classic, but it's a story that deserved to be filmed. Don't expect a Richard Curtis film. BUT the acting IS fabulous and the chemistry good. It's worth investing an hour and a half of this precious life.

Charming well acted, if not very challenging
What's not to like here. Diane Keaton plays an excellent honest, ill fitting widower and Brendan Gleeson a charasmatic unorthadox loner. Charming story about a battle for his ramshackled home. Probably only let down because given the big difference in lifestyle of the characters, the clash of lifestyles and outlook are almost not in evidence. More Romcom than real life, but enjoyable anyway.

average movie
Brandan Gleeson is good, grasping the whole meaning of his role as a sort of educated savage who lives next to civilisation but is not part of it. Diane Keaton, well, has not been Diane Keaton for a long time, and here again she is just very very average (or less), and does not seem to take her role that seriously. Apart from that, predictable plot, average writing and mostly bad directing have doomed this production.

Simple, beautiful, innocent, enjoyable.
Enjoyed this unfolding story of two lovely characters - both in their unique ways. Without having to go into great depths, their back stories are touched upon just enough that you feel warmed to both characters and their bond with each other. Loveable characters without being cheesy and over romanticised.

An interesting film with a fine balance between reality and whimsy.
More often than not, films based on 'real life' can be depressing and tied up in angst, as can films about older people and their potential love lives. This has charm, warmth and enough 'gritty realism' to keep it grounded. It has several bittersweet moments but pulls hope out of despair. Yes, 'Sunday afternoon' fare, but we all need a pick-me-up every now and then.
