With a ten year replacement recommendation, it was great to still be able to buy the same ones.
We have a detector for smoke in our hall (bungalow) and another for heat in our kitchen. Same make and models with a replacement date of 10 years. I bought this to replace the existing alarm when replacement was due. No need to change the mounting plate. I just popped the old one off and popped the new one on. Easy. Sorted for another 10 years. Good quality, mains powered with battery backup. We have had occasions where smoky cooking or blasts of heat from opening a very hot oven has set them off so we know they do they're job. Both alarms sound when one is triggered. Easily silenced with a ten minute reset. Very pleased.

10 Years and still easy to fit and replace.
Needed 4 of these for my tenants and so easy to replace. Hard wired and battery backup. What more do you want. Great design, easy to replace and no hassle.

Good product at a good price
I bought this to replace my ionising unit that had been fitted originally in the house. The builder of my house decided to put an ionising smoke alarm in the hall way, but this is right next to my kitchen which is separated by an archway and no door. As a result, using the grill or making toast or doing pretty much anything in the kitchen set the alarm off. Since fitting this heat sensor, I've had no false alarms. The heat alarm is the right type to go in a kitchen environment.

Solved the false alarms from an ionizing smoke detector in the garage
We have one of these in our kitchen, which has never been any trouble since the alarm system was installed some 3 to 4 years ago. That is, however, linked by wire to several Ei141 Ionisation Smoke Alarms around the house, one of which was wrongly put in the garage by the installer. The Ionisation one in the garage has caused several false alarms, such as when incidentally burnishing some wood while grinding off some protruding metal screws. More seriously it was set off within seconds when I used a 15kW kerosene space heater is a large single garage.I have now replaced the garage one with an Ei144 Heat Detector, although I was actually sent an Ei144RC, which I understand from Ei Electronics is directly compatible. It was an easy matter to release the catch by pushing in a small screwdriver, sliding of the old one from its base and then sliding on the replacement. Since then there has been no further problems when using the kerosene space heater in the garage. So far pleased with the outcome. These alarms do make a fearsome racket all over the house when they go off, which quite upset the cat, and my wife. When I asked Ei Electronics about this, they explained that the sound level was a mandatory requirement.Ei Electronics have also been very helpful in advising on a compatible linked carbon monoxide alarm, for use in the garage with the kerosene heater, a linked relay unit that can switch on/off equipment in the event of an alarm, such as turning off the kerosene heater. They also explained how to extend the alarm system to more distant rooms, using the radio linked bases, where linking by wire to the new alarms is not practical.

Ok.. but a bit delicate.
This device is still being fitted to be fair, as the wiring required to complete the job has some complications, not due to the device.Generally I think it's well made and a good buy, my main complaint so far is that the 4 core cable required to fit it isn't generally available in your domestic DIY stores, you have to visit more specialist ones. The way the device goes together is nice, the connectors are solid. I would comment the plastic is a touch brittle where it clips the two halves together. I have a smoke alarm of the same type where one of the clips broke off when changing the battery. Once this has happened they don't sit correctly in the removable mount. This is a cheap and nasty bit of design that could have been done much better, it lets the whole unit down. To be fair, if care is taken it is perfectly fit for purpose though and I'd probably opt for one of these rather than try an unknown type. Just be gentle...
