HaywardSP1023 1-1/2-Inch FIP Inlet Return Fitting with Locknut and Gasket

I have tried others but this one so far has worked out the best, the biggest is the closest to actual PVC so the plastic is much more forgiving that other types, in addition I have found that these little guys match closer to the PVC threads than the other brands. In addition they also accept the threaded Pool lights as well.

There is way too much friction with the smaller diameter houses that you get with a standard intex pool.Initially I installed 2" plumbing, but kept the factory inlets and the flex hose behind them. I had a lot of trouble with sucking small amounts of air into the pump. It was because the inlets were so small that the smaller hoses were under a strong vacuum and were pulling in air or they would just collapse.I put these in and ran 1.5“ pipe all the way through to the pump, and now it runs quieter and doesn't suck air.I wasted a lot of time and money trying to adapt a big, powerful, pump to inlets designed for a smaller pump. Don't be like me, go big and do it once.

says i 1/2 inch. which is what the thread is. but does not fit in 1 1/2 hole. hole needs to be 1/16 inch larger.

I used this on my summer escapes pool, after Very Carefully cutting about 1/8 inch from all around the existing hole ( so the hole diameter is 1/4 inch larger)., using the original fitting as a guide.Now, having a standard 1-1/2 inch wall fitting, and other changes, I am able to hook up my pressure-side automatic pool cleaner that is saving me hours of work . Every year there is something that requires attention when opening our pool. This year, the return gasket had failed and there was a serious and possibly damaging constant leak. I ordered this replacement part on Saturday night around 8pm, it was at my door the next afternoon, in time for me to make the fairly simple swap and stop the leak! Great product

worked great on my above ground swimming pool, just install it before filling the pool but if you so happen to install it after its filled make sure your wife is not around when you install it. and work FAST! or your back yard will be a swamp.
