Is it difficult to assemble the model of led acrylic tower clock?

No, just take your time and follow the instructions.

How does it work when the lights on? Does it need batteries?

The clock uses 1 AA battery but the lights need a USB plug in. It doesn't come with a wall adapter. I am using one from a phone charger.

Can you paint or color it? If so what will stick, the wood is laminated?

The wood is laminated. I think if you roughed it up with sand paper it could be painted. I did not paint mine.

I want to get this elk model as a Christmas present for my son, is it difficult for a 11-year-old to assemble?

Very detailed assembly instruction is included. My 9-years’ girl took about 2.5 hours to finish it by herself. I think it’s not a difficult project.
