A very versatile multi function appliance
I wanted something that was small enough to make meals for 2-3 people and not take up much room on the workspace as a lot of other cookers of this style tend to be massive in size.Secondly, I really wanted a fry or what I like to call sauté function that I can use prior to adding other ingredients before closing the lid and placing it on a cooking setting. I also wanted a high quality inner bowl.Third I wanted it to be faster than a slow cooker as oftentimes I need to throw something to eat together quite quickly.Based on my needs above the Redmond cooker is small and lightweight enough to move around easily with the inner bowl quite capable of cooking for 3 easily. It is also worth mentioning that the bowl appears to be of a decent quality that is easy to clean and has not so far had food stuck to the bottom of the pan or the sides during or at completion of any cooking process.I already own an electric fry pan style of cooker that I am very happy with and been using for some time that I have been using as a normal fry pan but also for making chillies, and spaghetti Bolognese however I got increasingly frustrated when making chillies and similar because no matter how I managed the temperature of the pan I would often find the sauce spattering around the immediate cooking area so I began looking around for something with similar capabilities but with higher sides and found this product which I am happy enough with but there are some finer points I find a little frustrating:The fry/sauté option is fine but takes a while to heat up because the appliance only has a bottom heat plate and not around the sides often referred to as 3D which I would personally prefer, however I can overlook this because I just place the food inside the pan and go off and do something else while it’s heating up and come back to it but some people might find that too frustrating..I can still cook my bacon, sausages and eggs on the fry setting it just takes a little more time but at least there is no spatter around the workplace-)Ant meat used requires cutting up into small cubes because most cooking processes are around 40 mins or thereabouts and if cheaper cuts of meats are used that is not a sufficient time frame to really soften the meat. For example I wanted a stew with dumplings so I sautéed the meat and veggies on the fry setting then added the stock and flavourings placed the dumplings on top closed the lid and set it to stew (which is around 40 mins) and everything was perfect apart from the braising beef I had used which was still a little tough so the next time I made the same recipe I replacing the braising steak with lean mince and it was perfect. All my chilies, spaghetti Bolognese style, soup meals have also come out perfect even when left on the keep warm function for several hours.Conclusion.I defiantly feel this appliance is worth the asking price if you are looking for a one pot appliance for 2-3 adult sized meals. It is easy to use and could easily be carried to the dining table and of course there is only one bowl to wash up. I would have preferred 3D heat but can manage with the slight frustration of the fry/sauté heat up time as everything I have cooked so far (as long as it does not have large chucks of meat in the recipe) has cooked perfectly and tasted great even when left on the keep warm function for several hours.Oh and I still have the pilaf, oatmeal and one or two other programs to go at yet which I am certain at this point will cook those recipes just as efficiently. The company also carries spare parts for it’s models should you require a replacement bowl or other utensil and a 2-year warranty based on proof of purchase.EDIT: 03-01-19After owning this appliance for close to a year now I can honestly state I could not do without it, I have used most functions fine and despite my initial observations concerning the fryer not getting hot quickly enough I have resolved this by turning on the fry function for 6-8 mins and then adding my oil after that. I have cooked full english breakfasts including eggs so it has taken the place of my frying pan as well now so no spattering around the kitchen when frying anymore. As I use the soup and stew function extensively I often have the appliance on for hours like a slow cooker to tenderize meat which means the appliance is tied up when I want to be using it for other things so noticing that this model was on sale again I have bought another one so I can use them both at the same time as they are so light to carry and store away. As a lot of similar multi cookers often get complaints about the interior linings on the bowl flaking after some use mine has some tiny chips where the lid is closed but the rest of the bowl is still perfect after many uses and washes. I was also surprised by the keep warm function as one time I really had forgotten I had left a stew on keep warm for several hours and it was still fine not dried out and tasted fine.To summarize,Fried breakfasts, on fry mode (lid open) any grease spatter stays within the bowlsaute any food (lid open) prior to adding the rest of the ingredients then closing the lid to choose the required function such as stew or soupusing boiling water from the kettle and the steam function it takes no team to steam chicken and vegetablesThe rice function is fine but I tend to use a Microwave rice cooker just so I can be cooking my meals in the pot instead. The other functions work fine I just don't use them as much..also the time frames for each program can be adjusted easily and can be set for hours at a time. For the reasons above I have adjusted my star rating to 5.
