The size of the Fisher-Price Grow-with-Me 1,2,3 is relative to the child however they very cleverly made the skates to expand or contract. Just follow the directions on the skates and you will not have any problems. My grandson first put them on his barefeet and skated on the rug to get his confidence. A real hit for the one you love!

Q: what is the smallest size they will fit?

My daughter is 2-1/2 and wears 8/9 shoe size. Her shoes fit perfectly into the smallest setting. These are really good training skates for beginners. I bought very expensive ones for my first child and it took him much longer to learn. These are not as fast, therefore scary.

Q: of course we use shoes with the skates. but they are very very wide. even when buckled and adjusted properly the shoes still move. why so wide?

My guess is that kids wear different kinds of shoes with the skates. Having them be somewhat wide accommodates different shoe styles.

Q: Will these skates be OK on inside hardwood floors?

I got these skates for my niece. When the weather is bad and they don't want to have to go out to the rink, my sister has let her use them in the house on the hardwood floor. So far they haven't noticed any scratching on the floor. I think though it may also depend on how the child skates in them and coloring of the hardwood floor. Theirs is a lighter color wood and possibly you just don't see the scratching if there is any compared to a dark wood floor.
