Love it!!!
My Eddingtons Alligator Chopper arrived today and I love it! It usually takes me about approx 30-40 mins to prepare salad for our meals, ie cucumber, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, and red peppers and today, it took about say 10 mins which was a godsend and made preparing salads much more enjoyable cos we're always so rushed for time in preparing meals.I sliced the tomatoes in half before putting them in the Alligator Chopper as I like our tomatoes squared, same with onions, ie I sliced them once sideways after cutting it in half, and with the cucumber, I sliced them first sideways and then put them through the Alligator to get nice even squares, and same with the lettuce, all came out so well and I was very impressed. If you want crudities, there's no need to slice them sideways as the veg would come out lengthwise, eg cucumber. Have't tried with carrots as we're not really into carrots at the moment. We prefer the softer veg.Once the vegetables are on the chopper board, I push down hard with my hand to get a nice fast sharp chop motion, otherwise if it's done slowly and gently, the vegetables won't cut properly.I'm going to enjoy making salads more often now rather than putting it off cos it takes so much time to do! Am very pleased!Washing the product was a doddle too and very easy. I like that everything you need is compacted into as few bits as possible to do a full and complete job unlike mandolines. I've bought many mandolines of all sorts over the years trying to find the right machine to help us make salad making somewhat easier and I've sliced my fingers too many times on the mandolines which for me, has too many parts, cumbersome and feels dangerous cos of the really sharp blades; and doesn't produce the result that we want salad wise. The Eddingtons Alligator Chopper does all we want, in chopping all our veg into square pieces, perfect for mixing into pasta and wraps! No more excuses now to eat junk food when we can quickly make some salad with pasta and/or wraps!

Review
This is a great item for the kitchen.I bought this because my hands are not so great and I have numerous cuts on them. Because of how Multiple Sclerosis works and is so erratic, this gadget not only takes away the possibility of cuts (whilst chopping) it also chops the veg equally and neatly. The cleaning grid is also very handy. My advice for most effect usage would be:-When using the collector lid, hold it down with the other hand because it can pop off whilst using and slip all the chopped veg/fruit out.-Also clean straight after, to avoid any dried veg/fruit attached to the little squares.-When placing the veg/fruit to be chopped, have the cut side towards the cutters (it's an easier cut).Only negative thing I have for this is the fact that I still have to skin (an onion for example) which requires some kind of sharp blade...understandably.Great item!! :-)

Brilliant!
I bought this principally for the fine chopping of onions. It works perfectly! As other reviewers have stated, make sure the onion is cut in half first and then it will cope with even (half) large onions. However, the key to effective use, and I cannot emphasise this enough, is VERY firm, positive, downwards force right to the bottom of the stroke. DON'T BE WORRIED ABOUT USING SO MUCH FORCE YOU BREAK IT! I am 6' 3" and strong: I place both hands, one on top of each other, onto the Alligator and then, with all my weight, push down in one very firm fast stroke. The result is perfect! You need to be brave the first couple of times you try it! If you falter or ease back on the pressure the Alligator will get stuck mid-onion and there is no way to restart - you need to clean it out and start all over again. A great device!

Nothing much has improved
I first had one of these as an Xmas present and initially I was delighted. However, after a short honeymoon period I realised it was not as good as a I first thought. The chopper does not handle whole onions....that is to be expected unless they are small. I soon discovered that it also doesn't handle halved onions very well. No problem I thought, I'll just use quartered onions. It then became a pain to have to peel and then quarter the onions. It also became clear that the strength of the device was another concern. I use different types of onions for different dishes so I use large medium and small onions. I also use this device more than the average home user so I have to accept it is a domestic device and NOT a professional device.I have seen some reviews where it is suggested you need to be swift with the action. That does work but a word of warning. If you use a hard fast motion you will soon start to cause damage. The damage I came across was to the green base where it arched under pressure. This soon developed a fault and after some more use it made the device near redundant unless you used very small quartered onions or onions cut into eights. That really defeats the object because a few more chops with a knife would complete the job. I would say that you would be lucky if you used this more than a couple of time per weeks and didn't damage the device. I am sure there are some users who have managed this but they must be using smaller and softer onions or vegetables. One reviewer mentioned the vegetable jamming in the blades, this is a possible sign that the fault is developing and it's all downhill from there. When I make a curry I use 1Kg of onions and I make this 2-3 times per week. I started out with halved onions but soon had to use quarters. After 2 months the device was struggling and I soon discovered the flaw. They have strengthening cross members on the base but they all join at what appears to be the weak point where most stress is applied. The result is a useless onion chopper.I think what upset me more than anything was the lack of support from Eddingtons. They don't reply to emails or phone calls which is truly poor in terms of service.I have just purchased a replacement but will only use it occasionally, mainly for my daughter now who is enjoying cooking of stir fry, curry and soup dishes.I would award 3 stars but the need to use a strong swift action, the design problem and the lack of customer service means it is just a 1.

Good quality
I do a lot of pasta sauces. I use carrots, onions, celery in a lot of the sauces. This chops them perfectly. Easy to use. Good quality

Great tool
Nice tool. Doesn't save much time but it makes the life easier for ones who are not professionals and or have skills with chopping.

Lökhackare
Jag ger bort denna i present. Har en likadan själv sedan flera år tillbaka och är jättenöjd med den.

Cumple solo para ciertas funciones
Me gustó! Cumple su función sólo con algunas verduras duras como cebolla, rábanos y pepino. Espero dure el filo de las cuchillas. Solo sirve para picado fino tipo pico de gallo.
