Sodium Silicate is the main ingredient of Steel Seal and other well known engine repair formulaes. I have a 2.2 diesel which had blown the head gasket between cylinders 2&3, this was causing back pressure through the cooling system causing coolant to vent out of the expansion bittle so on any long runs or when working the motor hard the engine was dumping it coolant via the expansion bottle. After a bit of time on Google and wikihow i decided to try this as a cheap head gasket repair. This item is approx 40% Sodium Silicate solution so depending on engine size you may need 2 bottles. I then simply followed the instructions Steel Seal publish on their website for their product but using this much cheaper one instead and hey presto it worked!! I was delighted, saved myself an expensive repair using an inexpensive product and the engine no longer loses its coolant. Trucks not worth a full repair as very old and only a farm run about so be happy to get another year or two out of it before needing to replace it. But if you want to try an inexpensive head gasket repair before doing anything more expensive i would recommend giving this a try, it certainly did the job for me so very happy.

I didn't actually buy this for any chemical experiments or the like. Which is a good job as it probably would have resulted in burnt eyebrows & fringe.I bought this product to actually repair a head gasket leak on my car after reading advice on the 'net it can seal the leak. It does.I followed the instructions in the advice I had, and used this in the water reservoir and sure enough I have a temporary (cheap) fix to what could have been a more expensive repair.I dare say this product has other uses, but for what my intentions were for it, it performed perfectly.

Used to repair blown head gasket (water leak) on Peugeot 206. Followed instructions found online - did the trick and saved about £600.
