This is a fabulous tank. Looks very contemporary. The negatives are the pump is very loud and I would like a larger opening at the top I haven’t cleaned it. But envisage the water going everywhere

Looks classy.
We live this. It looks amazing and very easy to operate. The only reason not 5 star is that it's noisy.

Pretty, easy, and happy fish!
The 'Life' range is different to the traditional Biorbs. It doesn't have the annoying magnifying curved sides, and the top surface area of the water is the same as other rectangular tanks.First up - what actually comes in the box? The tank, pump, some water treatment, a filter cartridge, some big gravelly stuff and the light bit that goes at the top. The light is a sealed plastic disc with blue and white LEDs - it has a thin silver power cord which trails down the side of the tank and it incorporates a clear plastic in-line switch. The disc slots into a recess in the lid on top of the aquarium, and can be removed. The photo on the box is misleading... 1. You don't get any plastic plants or nice tumbled black marble (that's about £6 a bag, and you'll need 3-4 bags to cover the base completely as the picture shows) and 2. The aquarium floor and filter cartridge is shown completely covered. It just isn't practical to do this because you will need to change the filter every 6 weeks - and it's at the base of the bubble tube. If you knock massive rocks flying whenever you have to access the filter, your fish are going to get quite scared. The clear plastic filter is about 4 inches wide, so is quite obvious if you leave it uncovered (although perhaps better than the big ugly black filters used in most tanks). A type of bacteria-friendly gravel is provided ('ceramic media'), which is basically large, pointy, rough bits of rock. The amount provided leaves half an inch of filter depth exposed. No gravel smaller than a pea is allowed because the filter may block; for this reason, your choice of fish is very limited - no bottom dwellers or sucky things like catfish or loaches (they would get hurt!). White Cloud Mountain Minnows are good, but be aware that the large gaps in the substrate can trap small fish (as can the filter - definitely not a fry tank). It's a bit too small for goldfish, and bettas would probably need the additional heater kit. Quick warning: The heater kit can warp the acrylic slightly in some cases. The bubble tube in the centre makes nice bubbles on the surface, but not much movement through the rest of the tank. I cut my tube down by a third to make more bubbles. The LED lighting is bright enough to keep a couple of Java ferns going, and really does look like natural daylight. Other plants don't cope quite as well. I would strongly recommend getting the siphon and algae magnet.GOOD: The Biorb Life seems to keep the water clean for much longer than a lot of tanks, it's visually stunning, simple to maintain (you can also reuse the cartridges and just change the activated carbon), the acrylic is strong, light and virtually invisible (and apparently is better for maintaining a constant temperature).BAD: Very limited choice of fish, the light is insufficient for many aquatic plants (Java fern works), the power lead trails down the back and looks like a bit of an afterthought. The filter can trap very small fish if the rocks aren't arranged carefully. The access hole at the top is very small, the pump isn't the quietest, the bubble tube can get in the way, the central bubbles quickly disperse fishfood, the lumpy substrate makes it a bit difficult to clean the base of the aquarium - and plants won't root in it. It's also distinctly less minimalist when you have wires coming out the top and an airline coming out of the bottom. The provided leaflet wisely suggests only installing 3 minnows in the first month until the filter catches up. I now have 5 in this tank and I consider that to be a bit crowded (they must be happy though because they're breeding every other week). Carefully consider your fishies' needs before you buy this.
