Incredible performance at a sensible price!
This 55" 4K HDR Samsung TV provides an outstanding picture performance for an extremely attractive price. TLDR; the MU7000 is a step above Samsung's mid-range models, and is really only bested by its more expensive brother (MU7070), and Samsung's flagship QLEDs, in terms of technical performance. The MU7000 is identical in almost every aspect to the higher MU7070 model, except that the 7070 has a 'Titan Grey' stand and surround instead of the MU7000's silver design. The other main yet subtle difference is that the more expensive MU7070 has a slightly uprated backlighting (bottom-edge-lit) system that gives it a slight visual edge over this slightly cheaper sibling, but whether the price gap is worth the slight difference is questionable, and depends on your usage. The MU7000 features UHD upscaling software, which does an impressive job of taking a non-4K signal, and working its algorithmic magic to make the image shaper, cleaner and overall more satisfying. The panel itself is a VA panel, meaning deeper, cleaner blacks (only beaten by the much pricier OLED panels), but has slightly limited viewing angles compared to IPS panels (perfectly fine for a small-medium room, or sitting close to the centre of the TV, roughly within a 60° cone). This MU7000 features a 40W sound system (2x10W, 1x20W), and has cleaner, fuller sound performance over the lower 6 series models. The TVs sound system will more than suffice for most people, it can get incredibly loud without distortion for a TV, but an external sound bar or custom set up will be required for those looking for a truly sense-immersing, ground trembling experience. The MU7000 has a native 120hz, which makes practically any input a smooth and judder-free experience. For gamers, the MU7000 features a 'game' mode which dials down some picture enhancements, but allows the MU7000 to boast an impressively low input lag of only 24ms for SDR, and 19ms for HDR. This low input lag makes any gaming experience a stunning and responsive experience, only realistically bested by computer monitors. No need to worry about making room for cables behind the TV, as all connections are outsourced to an external 'One Connect box' that has 4 HDMI 2.0 inputs, each with 4K/60p and HDCP 2.2 support. The 55MU7000 comes with Samsung's 'One Remote Control', which is one of the smartest, simplest TV remotes currently used (2018). It's compact, but not too small, can control a multitude of attached devices (so no need for 5 different remotes for different inputs/sources), and the layout of the buttons just feels 'right', when you're not using the voice controls that is.In summary, the EU55MU7000 shines above almost any other TV in this price bracket, especially if you can live without the tiny improvements of the MU7070. This MU7000 really possesses an outstanding performance and a vast array of features, and can therefore give even Samsung's flagship QLEDs a decent run for their money.
