One of the best Dr. Whos
Great series. Peter Capaldi made a great contribution to the pantheon of Doctors.

Season 10 for me was just as good as before
Over the years I have bought all of the seasons of Doctor Who.I'm a big fan. Enjoyed David Tennant, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi playing the part. They each had their own individual ways of doing it.And contrary to all the other comments, I like Jodie Whittaker also as the Doctor.I just have one problem and this just doesn't apply to the Doctor alone.I live in Ireland. In order to complete my set I am only missing one episode. The Christmas 2017 Special in which Peter regenerates into Jodie.I'm being told it cannot be shipped to Ireland. At first I thought it was just that particular one but having checked over 100 items before Christmas for Presents for family and friends and some for myself, I found 50 or more CDs and DVDs (box sets) will not ship to Ireland. And I'm finding each day that number is increasing.I'm also discovering both online and amongst friends that UK companies are shipping very little to Ireland. That's very frustrating. A few years ago it wasn't such a problem because you could get them in a record shop (It's true, it would cost you more but at least you could get it).But now record shops are few and far between. Almost non existent. So what do we do ?How do we get what we want ? Amazon send emails each day recommending items based on your purchases but when you click on them they can't be shipped to Ireland. What's the problem ? Anyone else out there with the same complaint ?I want to buy items. Both for me and friends. Why can't I ?Season 10 is good.

A fitting bridge between Steven Moffat and Chris Chibnall's respective era's.
Continuing where The Doctor Falls left off, the Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi) arrives at the South Pole where he comes face to face with his crotchety first incarnation (David Bradley) who like himself is close to the brink of regenerating. Together they encounter glass-like entities, who have snatching people from various time zones. One such victim is a unnamed world War One captain (Mark Gatiss) who fate will have it, was spirited away before he was too be killed in the line of duty. Together the two Time Lord persona's attempt to return the soldier to his own timeline, while attempting to uncover the entities plot which reveals a couple of unexpected twists.Marking something of a watershed moment in the history of the series both classic and new, Twice Upon a Time not only marks the not only the second time that another actor as portrayed William Hartnell's antiquated, irascible first Doctor, (Richard Hurdnall took on the mantle in the 20th Anniversary Special; The Five Doctors in 1983) but that a woman has inherited the role. While the story proves to be the second best of Capaldi's Christmas specials, with it being pipped to the post by 2014's Last Christmas, it still proves to be an emotional and engaging send off for Capaldi, if a somewhat flawed one.To get down to it's merits, Bradley is of-course the ideal choice to play the original Doctor (he had played William Hartnell in the television bio-pic; An Adventure in Time and Space in 2013) who William Hartnell I suppose effectively brought to life. I say suppose as I can't say I was ever a fan of his pro-type so to speak. I never warmed to the character greatly who his successor, the late great Patrick Troughton sublimely perfected as a total differentation. Never the less, Bradley delivers a wonderful rendering of the role, choosing wisely not to attempt to impersonate Hartnell but channel the essence of the character. Peter Capaldi is quite simply awe inspiring, giving one of the best performance in the role if not the best, and one that he certainly owes to the series, not least of all himself. Like previous regeneration episodes, (even the dreadful The End O Time Part's One and Two), it is is a reflective and emotional as is it should be.Pearl Mackie makes a return as former companion Bill Potts who had just recently made her departure from the TARDIS at the end of Series 10. It's not the first time companions have briefly reprised their roles, and it has proven to have become something of a trend which has been guilty of being contrived in the past. It's pulled off quite effectively here as it's woven in the plot. Mackie defies the naysayers who predicted she would be irritatingly obnoxious as she comes in to her own, and proves them wrong. Her quiet little moments with Twelfth Doctor who remains irresolute as she attempts to convince him that she is the genuine article is wonderfully realized through their nuanced performances.Mark Gatiss makes a welcome guest cast member, although of-course not for the first (he played Prof. Charles Lazarus in 2007's; The Lazarus Experiment) as the rather a-typical World War One Captain who has the very British reserve, and stiff upper lip challenged by the extraordinary predicament he finds himself in.The story itself while efficient enough is somewhat unremarkable given that it's not the most innovative of concepts, as it planely borrows from the movie Avatar. It's something of a potential pitfall with multi-doctor stories that requires them being brought together by a means that could come over as forced. It does however act as a neat conceit for Capaldi's Doctor to reflect over his era as it reaches it's end. The main theme of the story is that of closure, and looking back on the past as a means to confront a future of uncertainty. It's hammered home in a myriad of ways that are offer not only nostalgia, which works considerably more well than David Tennant's swansong which suffered from Russel T. Davies self-indulgence.With Rachel Talalay directing again, she seamlessly uses BBC archive footage from the The Tenth Planet, which was William Hartnell's final story, and competently melds in in to the Christmas Special with it's vintage black and white monochrome fading in to colour beautifully. She also brilliantly brings the South Pole to life, and alien antagonists, The Testimony are given an eerily ethereal quality that compliments the more haunting tone of the episode. And with it's plot dealing with the Doctor's refusal to regenerate and to preserve the man that he currently he is, they offer a possible respite to his struggle before he reaches his catharsis. It reaches it's pinnacle with Capaldi's passionate final speech, which after the dust settles and we are faced with the rather stunning features of Jodie Whittaker, before the credits finally role, we are left to muse what the future has in store with Chris Chibnall taking over the reigns from Steven Moffat. If anything; Twice Upon a Time makes for a successful bridge between both men's respective eras and while not exactly perfect, it's one that won't necessarily be forgotten too soon.

Capaldi's last season is just great!
Peter Capaldi's Doctor may be about to regenerate, and head writer Steven Moffat is very shortly heading out the door, but together they have managed to turn out one of the best series of Doctor Who for a long time. The introduction of Pearl Mackie as new companion Bill, and the return of Matt Lucas's Nardole, are not only handled well but turn the new TARDIS team into a force to be reckoned with. Everyone seems to up their game this season, with a compact 12 episode arc, some great adventures and just some brilliant storytelling. And Murray Gold's score is as good as it's ever been. From some interesting new monsters to classics such as Dalek's and Cybermen, there is something here for everyone, and one of the most rewarding season finale's will have you on the edge of your seat waiting for this year's Christmas special to come along. All in all, this season has been unmissable and will leave you not only wishing for more adventures from this particular crew but also thinking that perhaps Capaldi was the greatest Doctor of them all.

The best season so far from Peter Capalidi. Unfortunately all good things must come to an end, but we have a new beginning soon!
As a dedicated Dr Who fan it was only a matter of time before i bought the latest series to add to my collection. I have enjoyed Peter Capaldi as the Doctor and each series has been better than the one before. This was no exception with some good twists and a very thoughtful if complicated ongoing story-line. Sad to see the end but really looking forward to the new female Dr Who.Like a lot of series they loose steam and viewers and the figures for Dr Who have been disappointing for the last few seasons. The complete change of cast, writers producers etc, should breath new life into what has always been an excellent series. Now i just have to wait for the Christmas special to drop in price to maintain my collection

Perfect for fans
A great series from Peter Capaldi. Bill and Nardole are what I feel is a nice addition to the cast. It was also nice to see Missy again before her story ends with the Capaldi Era. Worth a watch if you are a fan of Dr who.
