A wonderful book from an expert on the subject
A wonderful book from an expert on the subject. My wife and I are restoring a 1901 Victorian house. This book, and another book in the same series by the same author, gave us many good ideas.

Painting Your Victorian
Several painters tell why they painted a house a specific way and give a small glimpse into their thought processes. From this you are given the chance to design the paint scheme on a couple of uncolored houses at the end of the book. I thought the idea of the book was spectacular and I learned quite a bit regarding the color palette.

This is a classic and was helpful when I was choosing color schemes for a Victorian and a Craftsman.

If you think this book is going to help you choose colors or really figure out which sections of a house to put which kinds of colors on- forget it. The first chapter or so was interesting showing the techniques the professionals use to strip off old paint, but 90% of the book is just a chapter on each of several companies who repaint houses and their backgrounds. Since this book was printed so many years ago they aren't still painting anyway.
