Middy Power Carp 5.5m Whip Ready To Fish Outfit

Don’t be put off by all the ‘no good for pole anglers’ or ‘beginner’ reviews. This is an excellent piece of kit. But it’s a whip, not a pole. Treat it as such and you will have hours of great fishing. The elasticated sections are easy to fit and remove too. As with all telescopics, don’t pull them so hard when setting up, that way they will not jam. I landed several carp to 5lb with this on it’s first outing, along with skimmers and roach, all on the weaker, yellow elastic. Match your rig to the elastic and you won’t snap the elastic, the rig will go first. Take your time with it and play the fish out. The fish I landed were all pulled from a lily bed, so this is plenty strong enough for the task.Which is more than can be said for the rig which snapped off, first fish. But it’s only a rig- I replaced the hook length. No big deal.I can’t get the extension to fit - but to be fair, that is probably more to do with me than the whip. I didn’t need the extra 50cm anyway.To sum up, I love this and am looking forward to many happy hours on the bank with it!

Already knew the quality of this produce as it was brought as an exact replacement of my Dads previous pole whip for his birthday as somebody stepped on his last one on a day out on the bank. Extremely strong and durable little pole suitable for both light angling and beginners to match angling. Came with 2 elasticated pole tips, pole rig and disgorger, very well packaged and delivered 2 days early which is always a bonus.

Delivered on Tuesday (2 days ago) fished for first time today. Caught lots of F1s, roach, tench, small carp and one chunky 7lb carp. Whip handled it very well. Nice fight. Took 25 minutes to land using pink elastic top set but felt good and reliable throughout. Very happy with this whip.Areas of concern, however: upon delivery, found hairline crack in bottom end extension piece. Not major but might have opened wider in time. Piece of duck tape did job. Packaging on delivery not great; bubble wrap and bin liners job. A cardboard tube would have avoided any damage. Manufacturer (midy) packaging not encouraging; clear plastic sleeve which looks like it's aimed at kids. Better product than that so don't be put off. Finally, PTFE bush in end of top section not glued to end so slides off with elastic as it stretches. Concerned when playing that bigger fish that elastic might shear off against rough end of top section tip. Will have to glue on.Bottom line: Proof was in the result, 7lb carp gave it a good test and although took a while to land ( but isn't that the whole point/ fun element?!) it never seemed in doubt. Nice soft action in top section, elastic up to job.Would recommend.

Bought this for my grandson to use, he loves it. Took him fishing with it and it was easy to use, instructions on package, Came with 3 tips, two elasticated. Used the tip that was fitted and hooked the rig on and away he went. Good beginner’s pole/whip and he had a few fish to boot. 😃

The float was a damaged float that was in the parcel. There were no bits in parcel so it was damaged prior to entry

A very good value whip. Very powerful, regardless of the elastic fitted. To be on the safe side, i fitted my own elastics after purchase, before first use. It is however, heavier than i expected, due to its power rating I guess. The worst thing about it, in common with other Middy 'lower end' products, is the absolutely awful transparent brittle plastic sleeve it is supplied in. Its packed as if it were a toy!! So, be prepared to replace that immediately for a decent pole bag, adding to the cost.

Want an easy fishing method? This is it. First class product. Kids from 5 to 75 can use with ease. This is great quality at a very affordable price. No reels to bother with and no tangles.One thing that lets it down is the rather cheap plastic case it comes in, which forms a sort of vacuum packing around it after one use and makes it difficult to extricate on second and subsequent uses. I’ve discarded it and use elastic bands to keep it together. That said, it’s a brilliant product.
