Can this could be separated into 2 pieces for front and back covers?

No, this MoKo iPad 10th generation 10.9-inch case is not detachable. Please find the links below to view the design. Thank you. https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61S9L82r3eL._AC_SL1000_.jpg https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51fA3y99reL._AC_SL1000_.jpg

does this also work with an air 5?

No, this case does NOT work with an Air 5. This case is specially designed for iPad 10th generation 10.9-inch 2022 (Model: A2696/A2757/A2777), it will not fit others. However, below link is for the case that fits iPad Air 5th generation. Hope it helps. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08DJ4VP6L

Does the cover stay closed? It doesn't look like it has a latch of any kind.

It has no latch, but it has stayed closed foe me. The front is divided into three folds. So you can flip back just the first section to check the battery status. The cover is slim and sleek and lightweight. My personal preference would be a more velvety finish so that I could hold onto it better.

Can you connect an apple key board with this case?

If you mean the Apple magic keyboard folio for the iPad 10th generation, then this case is not compatible with it. However, if you mean other keyboard styles, please contact us at cs@mokocases.com with a picture or a link showing the said style. Then we will provide accurate information. Thank you.
