It has a very small lip. It protects it when you set it down but it would not protect it if you drop it.

no - only the back and sides are protected. I like the accessability of the face and feel that the side bumpers provide adequate protection for the face, as they wrap around ever so slightly.

Are the edges raised over the front of the phone? like a speck and otterbox cases?

The edges are raised very slightly, but hardly enough to notice unless you touch them. This is enough, however, to protect the phone when it is face down on a flat surface. I don't know what speck and otter box cases are, so I can't say if they are similar. Hope this helps.

It's a hard flexible rubber that allows u to slide it over the 5s.
