Better than expected
I found this film quite disturbing. It sets friends against friends, has some fairly horrible scenes, but I was so drawn to Rebecca de Mornay's portrayal of Mother. Mother is complete sociopath, but the kindnesses she does that turn into torture make for a very interesting character. The other actors are pretty good too. I disagree totally that it's 'idiotic'. It's definitely a film you have to be in the right frame of mind to enjoy, if enjoy is a word you can use about a film of this nature. But it's compelling, weird, creepy and very watchable. My only gripe is the ending. It's too typical a 'horror film' ending and it also undermines the strength of some of the characters. On the plus side, we do get to see De Mornay being a bit of a psychopath again. Comparisons with The Hand That Rocked The Cradle are bound to happen, but she's a very different character in this, albeit just as unbalanced. She deserved a better career than she's had, or at least more notice. When you look at the number of actresses out there that are getting paid for not really being able to act, it's ridiculous.I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good hour and half of bizarreness and a little bit of gore.

Mothers Day - Edge of the seat, shocking and intense movie! A MUST watch.
What can I say? This movie is definitely for 18+ only due to it's violent and graphic, yet thought provoking content.Without going into too much detail and spoiling it for you, Mother was evicted two months ago and as there was zero contact with her boys as one of them lost the only mobile she could contact to tell them of the eviction. So, as it goes 'her boys' were involved in a bank robbery that went wrong and one of her boys needed urgent medical attention after a gunshot wound. Where did they head for? Yes, Mother's, not realising she was no longer living there but a young couple had bought the house and were enjoying a party with friends. That 'party' turns out to be their worst possible nightmare and a night of terror, threat and violence pursues after the boys manage to contact Mother and she returns to the house with their sister and so the twist begins.Completely unexpected events unfold, quite shocking but very, very watchable. I won't say anymore, or it will spoil the movie That I know you won't regret watching.Recommend 100% but remember this is definitely 18+ only.

RDM is on her finest form
delivered on time - well packed - no -damage - as described - no hasslesNo spoilersI don't remember hearing much publicity for this film so was delighted it turned out brilliantly. I don't know any of the cast other then RDM. This is a good thing as you have no associations.production values all goo - acting all good. I don't like telling plot lines as I hate it when I have an impact moment lessened by knowing what to expect. The events all take place on mothers day. - just before a hurricane is due to arrive.I liked this film because it examines human behaviour when the customary practiced and rehearsed and accepted responses no longer apply.to be honest I didn't initially get the opening sequence and it was half way through before the penny dropped.I also liked the non reliance one of my particular pet peeve clichés - that always adds a star. The blame - and their is PLENTY to go round is ladled out fairly.True to life the innocents really do get lead to slaughter.RDM is outstanding in this. Small in stature but giant in presence. Thoroughly evil - perhaps more like utterly broken. In fact I can't over praise her performance - perhaps it is in some part only allowed to come through so well because of the equally fine performances of the rest of the cast.Oh and while we're on it, this is a master class in how to tie up and really deliver an unexpected ending.ACID TEST

“Marm...Marm, you gotta sign in…” [security guard]
In this 2010 home invasion chiller three brothers occupy a house and hold a group of party goers hostage after a bank robbery goes wrong, where they await the arrival of their mother (Rebecca De Mornay) who seems nice at first, but things soon deteriorate. The real question is, will anyone get out alive?Rebecca De Mornay excels as the cold unhinged mother of the dysfunctional sadistic family and as the film develops, so do the frictions within the hostage group and the ‘family’ alike as some home truths come to light whilst the tension between the disparate groups also intensifies. Unlike many films of the genre, this does venture outdoors for a few scenes, so it doesn’t feel as claustrophobic as many. The intense atmosphere never lets up [gain a *] but the script has plenty of plot holes that stretch credibility [lose a *] and bizarre decision making and relationship choices. The single disc plays 3 trailers and a chocolate add[!] then offers play, scene selection, extras [interviews, B roll –a making of documentary, trailer] and set-up [2.0, 5.1, English Hoh subtitles on/off] and FYI the HoH subtitles only work with 2.0 sound selection. Rated 18, with some gruesome and intense scenes at the very start, use of the f & C words, as well as threatened and graphic violence, this is obvious late night viewing but much of the violence is psychological rather then physical which removes much of the horror aspect, but as ‘horror’ entertainment it remains a good ***** view, even though the opening sequence should be deleted [IMHO] as I almost immediately second guessed the outcome.

A good film but not so much horror
A little disappointed as this was billed as an intense horror, but there wasn't much horror at all, nor much gore. So please don't expect too much blood and guts if that is your thing. However, this does withstand itself as a pretty good film and Rebecca De Mornay delivers a very good performance and is the star of the show. I would categorise this as more of a violent thriller, with moderate scenes of toture, but nothing on the same level as the Saw II, III and IV, who's director made Mother's Day. Being from the same camp as the Saw films, I was expecting a real gorefest and interesting twist at the end, but this was not the case.Mother's Day is a good film with exceptional acting from De Mronay and is enjoyable to watch.
