A fantastic way of rejuvenating an old Mac

Attached an inexpensive 250Gb SSD to my late 2012 iMac, installed the lates tmacOS and now my computer feels like new! This is literally plug and play and has worked for me seamlessly for several months now. My only criticism is that it is a bit of a clunky design, it would be great if it had an enclosure for the SSD and a longer Thunderbolt cable.

Works great, but Thunderbolt cable is very short and can't be extended

This is by far the best solution that I found to connect my eSATA enclosure to a Thunderbolt port of my Mac. Akitio adapter works great. macOS Mojave 10.14 (APFS) boots fast (< 20 sec.). I enabled TRIM (delete) on my SSD. Also, support for SMART data is native (Disk Utility show "S.M.A.R.T. status: Verified"). This adapter doesn't increase the "Unexpected power loss count" of my SSD when I put my Mac to sleep. For comparison the Delock 42510 Thunderbolt enclosure always increases that parameter, which means that it cuts the power unexpectedly when machine goes to sleep. Akitio has no such problem (it turns off, but drive is still powered on, by the eSata enclosure).I have two complains about Akitio adapter:1. The integrated Thunderbolt cable is so short (~6 cm without connector), that the only position around my MacMini is at the back between all other cables. If you have iMac or MacPro, you must put something under the adapter, otherwise it will fly in the air on its short Thunderbolt cable.I really can't justify that decision of Akitio. You made all that complicated design to hide the Thunderbolt cable when not in use. Why not just put a female Thunderbolt port on the adapter as other enclosures? Then just bundle whatever Thunderbolt cable you wish, as you do with the eSata cable on the other side. Just give us some option. I searched left and right and there is no such thing as Thunderbolt extender cable (Male/Female). There are only Display Port extender cables that don't support Thunderbolt specs.2. The blue circle light on the center of the adapter is too bright. It rivets attention on it especially at night. A small dimmed light as in Delock 42510 would be great.

Excellent Throughput Performance with SSDs

I was very pleased with this purchase. Unlike most of the Thunderbolt - eSATA offerings in the market, this product does not burden the user with unwanted USB 3.0/3.1 ports, or other ports, and the extra cost and performance limitations that usually result.Performance is excellent, benchmarked with two high performing SSDs, the Samsung 840 Pro and 860 EVO. Also tested with a range of different 2.5inch hard drives. The device appears under 10.10.5 Yosemite as a Thunderbolt AHCI Controller and supports all of the AHCI driver modes I tested. The device has been reliable and operated with no observable bugs or problems. It is currently being used to interface a 2014 Mac Mini with an e-SATA enclosure containing a Samsung 860 EVO SSD.

Ich kann hier keine Links reintun, also google nach "Adding fast external disks to various Mac models, with benchmarks". Dort erkläre ich auch die Testmethoden detaillierter.

Consigliato

Consigliato l'acquisto.

Mac Pro users BEWARE.

The SATAgo works, but there's a reason they only show it connected to a laptop.Look at the picture to see what's in store if you buy this.AKiTiO -- this mini TB2 connection is a design FAIL.No more eSATA for me.
