Awesomeness at a great price and 1st class service
This is an awesome drive. Had a few hitches setting it up as I bought it used, but despite being offered a refund I stuck at it and found a solution. Glad I did. I'd certainly have no qualms about purchasing from this seller in future. Great service and fab price.

Great add on for a Mid 2011 iMac
This drive has extended the life of my 2011 imac by several years . The Thunderbolt port works very well, and I use it with my apple tv for streaming photos, and video.

Drive corrupted on first use and no customer support from Lacie available - Terrible
Awful experience with this well rated product. On first use everything was fine. Storing video files and editing from the disc in FCPx...all good.Next day on plugging it in everything was gone. Paid a specialist to try and recover and nothing can be done. Lacie only provide recovery software for PC not Mac.All data gone. SO i get in touch with Lacie support, you can only fill in a form with no telephone support. The form does not recognise the model number for the drive, even though it is written on the drive itself. Therefore the form wont submit and i am left in Limbo with a non working drive and no way of contacting Lacie. Rubbish

Would recommend this product
Using to run an iTunes folder on an iMac via thunderbolt connection. No issues with speed and outer case is kind of funky. Would recommend this product.

Works well for large offsite back-ups.
I use a number of these rugged LaCie drives & all have worked reliably. This one is used as another backup for family photos & videos which I keep at my daughters house.

Confidence building
I travel a lot and have to carry a large amount of video data with me. I have various high-capacity drives, some of which are cheaper, but this is the only one I don't worry about packing in the suitcase.

I love these drives
I love these drives. Took them on a project around Europe for 3 months. Didn't have any issues with all of them. A great buy!

A Warning: Reconfigures your hard drive
I got this product because of its rugged design and ease of use. However, after conducting a back up I returned to my system to find it had re configured the hard drive. After speaking with tech support, it was established that there was no way of re accessing my data and my drives had to be formatted. I then re-stored the data successfully from the Lacie drive. However, this is completely unacceptable, and whilst it did work, left me in a very serious situation. Avoid.

Robusto e versatile.

4TB Rugged LaCie Does Not work with Mac Time Machine
4TB Rugged LaCie Does Not work with Mac Time Machine: The 4TB LaCie works fine for the first 8 backups on Mac's Time Machine and then it goes into hardware failure. On the first drive received, called LaCie Support and they sent out another drive (for $12.67) and I returned the original one. The refurbished drive they sent me did the same thing i.e. it worked for a day or 2 on time machine, but then went into hardware failure. I am using a USB port in the back port of my MacPro using Sierra Mac OS. I then tried it on 2 other Macs, one a MacLaptopPro on Sierra, and one on El Capitan OS. The 4TB drive did the same thing on Autobackup on all 3 Macs i.e. went into hardware failure after 8 or 9 backups. I have used LaCie Rugged Drives for years and have 60 of the Rugged HDs, so am very familiar with the drives. The 2TB Rugged drive work fine with Time Machine. I again called LaCie and they contend that the 4TB drives are compatible with Time Machine, although the support person (Masa) indicates that the rugged drives aren’t intended to be on all the time i.e. which would mean we shouldn’t use auto backup. Somehow that seems inconsistent with the use of Time Machine. I then bought a Western Digital for Mac 4TB and it works fine with Time Machine in Auto Mode on all of the Macs. The LaCie support person said that the problem must be the environment I am using them in!!! She has to be kidding. Anyway, she refused to send me another replacement so I am stuck with a $350 paperweight.

Great item! Would buy again
The item is well made and I love the rubberized edges so it stays put. I’m on a laptop, so it keeps it from sliding around when I move or change locations. Another handy feature (especially for someone like me that loses everything), is that the cord wraps into itself and stays attached so I won’t always be losing it like I usually do. Very convenient and it doesn’t get in the way either. I’ve only used this hard drive for a about a month so time will tell, but it’s solid and looks and feels like it will hold up nicely. The storage capacity is on the higher end which is very important for me since I’m a photographer. The rubber makes it stay in place which means it’s a little harder to fit it into my laptop bag, but it’s not too bad and it’s worth the minor hassle, IMO.This is a great hard drive and I would buy it again.

Nice but not perfect yet
This seems to be a well built device with nice features but I can't find a Kensington key hole for securing the drive. Big oversight LaCie. I'm NOT a fan of Seagate drives but supposedly it contains two of their heavier duty drives. We use it in RAID-1 for Time Machine so it doesn't work hard but I would be slightly concerned about its ability to stay cool with all of that rubber around the case and no heat sink or fan.A couple of complaints are as follows: The device contains the initiation files for setup, BUT the tool did not use RAID 0 or RAID 1 terms in its description of setup. I found this to be ambiguous and I incorrectly setup the drive the first time. No big deal except that they did not include the device manager program on the drive. I had to download it from their site. After that I reconfigured the drive to RAID 1. Also, the water resistant end cap for the power jack end of the device, won't accept the cap if you run the drive with a power supply plugged in.It is quiet and according to my disc utility, it has SMART capabilities. It can also email you if it self detects problems. Formatting and health checks so far have been problem free. The cord is longer than shown in the photo which is good as it still is barely enough. It would also be nice if it had a second Thunderbolt port for daisy chaining devices.UPDATE: During it's first defrag operation, it did overheat as feared and had to cool before completion. Our office is about 68 deg so this drive is best left for light to moderate work loads.
