Q: Does it have a hook to hang it by or do I have to purchase additional item?

There is a closed loop so a hook is not needed, but it really depends on where you are hanging it. The tree branch my feeder is on is very thick, so I use a hook. Q: Will it work for sunflower seeds?

Our mix is Sam's brand, a (40 pound bag), mostly sunflower seeds, even has broken peanuts and some fruit in the mix so sunflower seeds are no problem in ours. This feeder don't have to be removed from it's hanging place, just push the button to raise the roof and pour the seeds in. Ours is 1.5 years old and in Fla and is still fine.

Q: Doesn’t thetray get wet when it rains?

The tray doesn't get wet when it rains. I have lots of birds when it rains. I like this feeder better than any other one I have had.
